What you will do:

Reporting to the Team Leader of Parks and Recreation or their designate, as part of the Community Services Department, the successful candidate will perform duties in accordance with departmental and corporate work plans and priorities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Maintaining the ice surface, operating ice resurfacing machinery (training will be provided) will be a major component of this position.
  • Acting as a front-line contact for the public (explaining rules, providing direction, answering questions, etc.).
  • Performing general operational and administrative duties (opens and closes, set up and take down for functions/special events and rentals, keeps all records and daily logs, etc.).
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance duties including but not limited to hallways, vestibules, stairways, entrances (inside and outside), lobby area, dressing/change rooms, washrooms and shower units.
  • Ensuring the ice surface, and machinery/tools used to maintain the surface, are in good quality condition, including monitoring refrigeration equipment (recording temperatures, pressures, and water chemical levels, changing ice resurfacing blade and propane tanks).
  • Taking reasonable precautions and actions to mitigate risks to users and ensure a safe environment for staff and the public.
  • Working safely within the law and safe work practices/procedures (understanding and following standard operating procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, using MSDS information, ensuring all guards are in place)
  • Immediately reporting unsafe acts, conditions, or contraventions of the OHSA to a supervisor, the JHSC, or a Health & Safety representative.
  • Report and record maintenance needs or repairs to team leader or manager. Assist with the maintenance as required Performing other duties as assigned in accordance with corporate objectives.

What the ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in a customer service role.
  • Valid G Driver’s License.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment and initiative when dealing with coworkers, supervisors and the public.
  • Ability to provide timely and courteous customer service.
  • Good judgment and initiative and the ability to follow directions.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Basic computer literacy and Microsoft Office skills

Responsible, as an employee, for health & safety under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA). This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Working safely within the law and safe work practices/procedures (understanding and following standard operating procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, using MSDS information, ensuring all guards are in place)
  • Immediately reporting unsafe acts, conditions, or contraventions of the OHSA to a supervisor, the JHSC, or a Health & Safety representative.
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly work area.

What we will require:

  • A Police Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the Municipality
  • Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualifications, if applicable
  • Three valid references for a background check

Pay: $24.72-$28.91 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 24 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Evening shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
