About the Role:
We have an exciting new position for Manager, Middle Office to join our team in Oakville, ON. As the Manager of Middle Office, you will be the focal point for all post-trading activity and you will ensure that the trading activities are accurately managed. You will work closely with other functions such as trading, finance, risk, legal and IT and you will be the Company’s primary contact person with external parties.
Responsibilities:
Trading Process:
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of trade capture by overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of trades from execution to settlement, ensuring smooth workflow between front office, middle office, back office, and external counterparties
- Manage and optimize daily operational procedures for trade capture, validation, and confirmation
- Lead the reconciliation of trading positions and ensure consistency between front, middle, and back office systems
- Develop and manage daily, weekly, and monthly reporting of trading activities, including volumetric exposure, P&L attribution, and performance metrics
- Identify process improvements, working with cross-functional teams to enhance controls and implement automation solutions within the Middle Office.
Trading Control:
- Maintain comprehensive internal controls and frameworks for all trading activities
- Monitor adherence to established trading limits and escalation procedures for limit breaches
- Conduct regular reviews and audits of trading processes to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations
- Identify control gaps and implement corrective actions to strengthen the control environment
- Act as a primary resource for traders and accountants, addressing and resolving inquiries related to settlements, positions, and financial outcomes
Credit Management:
- Manage all aspects of collateral, including cash, Letters of Credit, and other forms of security, ensuring timely and accurate posting/receipt
- Oversee the issuance, tracking, and reconciliation of Letters of Credit and other financial guarantees
- Manage exposure for all trading portfolios, including mark-to-market (MtM) calculations and potential future exposure analysis
- Implement and manage margin call processes, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations
- Monitor counterparty creditworthiness, assess credit limits, and recommend adjustments based on market conditions and credit assessments
Risk Management:
- Collaborate with the front office, monitor market movements and their impact on trading portfolios, providing timely insights and recommendations to traders and senior management
- Develop, implement, and monitor a robust risk management framework for trading activities, covering market risk, credit risk, operational risk, and regulatory risk
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of risk management tools
Compliance:
- Manage and maintain our accounts with various ISOs (i.e. set up new traders, submit documents, user management, collateral management)
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all required regulatory reports and filings to NERC, FERC, and relevant ISOs
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits related to regulatory compliance.
- Provide guidance to trading and other relevant teams on compliance matters
Reporting & Analysis:
- Generate, analyze, and deliver critical reports: daily/weekly/monthly P&L, Position, VaR, Gross Margin, and tailored ad-hoc analyses for the commercial group.
- Maintain and scrutinize position risk metrics, providing actionable insights.
- Partner with Accounting for precise month-end reporting, specifically managing REC inventory reconciliation.
We want you on our team because you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business or relevant field
- Have at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in risk management
- Prior Middle Office experience including familiarity with MTM, Hedges, Forward Transactions and related reporting
- Prior experience in a Treasury related role is an asset
- Prior experience with Credit Collateral Management and Monitoring of Collateral Accounts
- Interest about the energy/power industry as whole
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, Microsoft excel and related applications
Ideally, you also have:
- Familiarity with commonly traded financial products, including Swaps, Futures, options and PPAs
- Familiarity with exotic and structured products, such as Heat Rate Call Options
- Familiarity with ISDA trade docs
- Strong attention to detail, ability to work with a dynamic team, as well as individually in support of the overall company and department goals
