The role
McMillan Vantage is hiring a Junior Associate beginning September 2, 2025, or on a mutually agreed upon date.
Our ideal candidate is an early-career professional who has recently completed an undergraduate or master’s degree in public policy, public administration, political science, or a related field, and has demonstrated an interest in public policy through summer jobs, campaigns, internships, volunteer roles, or academic research.
You are curious about the policy landscape in Canada and eager to build a career in research, public affairs, and government relations consulting. You may not yet have deep experience in one sector but you’re ready to learn quickly across many.
Team Vantage operates in a hybrid model. This role is based in Toronto, and you would be encouraged to spend the equivalent of three days a week in the office.
The responsibilities
McMillan Vantage consultants are thoughtful, curious, and highly-organized team players who thrive in a fast-paced, client-driven environment. Some of the responsibilities for a Junior Associate include:
- Supporting background research on policy issues, client files, and public sector trends
- Conducting jurisdictional scans and reviewing legislation, regulations, and public statements by policymakers
- Monitoring and summarizing relevant political and policy developments at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels
- Assisting with the development of briefing notes, key messages, PowerPoint presentations, and policy summaries under the direction of more senior consultants
- Contributing to the drafting of memos, reports, or discussion documents based on research and stakeholder input
- Collaborating with colleagues to support the preparation of consultation materials and public affairs strategies
- Supporting client accounts through administrative tasks such as meeting coordination, notetaking, and tracking deadlines or deliverables
- Staying current on sector-specific issues to support client work and new business development
The qualifications and competencies
- Completed an undergraduate or master’s degree in public policy, political science, public administration, or a related field
- Up to one year of relevant experience through internships, co-op placements, research assistantships, or volunteer roles
- Demonstrated interest in Canadian policy, politics, or government decision-making
- Strong research and writing skills with the ability to summarize complex information clearly
- Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple deadlines
- Collaborative, coachable, and eager to grow in a professional consulting environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (French is an asset)
