Based at our Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon or Calgary plant location The Quality Assurance Coordinator (QAC) is responsible for the implementation and continued maintenance of WCRL’s Corporate Quality Assurance Programs. The primary role of the Quality Assurance Coordinator is to identify and mitigate risks associated with product quality, product safety and regulatory compliance, through the application of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Canadian Organic Regime/National Organic Program (COR/NOP) standards.

Annual base salary range: $68,000 to $72,000

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee internal processes and procedures to ensure product quality and safety.
  • Ensure that WCRL’s manufacturing processes comply with standards at both national and international level.
  • Development and regular maintenance of the Quality Assurance (QA) Program including the HACCP plan and related standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Coordination and documentation of the HACCP training program.
  • Support divisional staff in development and maintenance of SOPs.
  • Conduct regular QA program audits and maintain performance and corrective action documentation.
  • Coordinate and maintain the HACCP and Safe Food Safe Feed (SFSF) third party certification programs.
  • Support the Sales Department with responding to customer requests related to product quality and safety concerns, inquiries, and customer audits.
  • Liaise with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on specific issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate and monitor quality verification programs such as the Animal Protein Products Industry (APPI) salmonella reduction program, and report trends or other concerns to management.
  • Support the production department with quality related issues and KPI targets.
  • Conduct and record regular mock recalls in coordination with the sales department.
  • Support plant management during the CFIA audit process.
  • Function as a catalyst for change and improvement in performance and quality.
  • Specify quality requirements of raw materials with suppliers.
  • Ensure that policies, procedures, and forms are documented, updated and maintained.
  • Maintain revision control of policies, procedures, work instructions, and forms.
  • Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies.
  • Encourage a safety culture where employees do not put themselves or others at risk.
  • Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
  • Undergo additional training as required for certification programs.
  • Travel to our plant divisions in Western Canada and the USA to conduct audits.

QUALIFICATIONS & FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in food science is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the food and agricultural industry.
  • Knowledge or background in HACCP/GMP (or higher level), FDA, SFSF, and CFIA requirements preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of process engineering, and organic chemistry.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing abilities to create, edit and issue controlled documents.
  • Experience leading projects and coordinating initiatives across internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate productively with employees at all levels.
  • Adaptability and ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Aptitude for problem analysis and problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines and job demands.
  • Ability to travel to divisions located in Western Canada and Washington State.
