The One Child Every Child Program in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Knowledge Mobilization Specialist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The OCEC Knowledge Mobilization Specialist will report to the Manager of the Value, Impact and Knowledge Mobilization Accelerator. This is a hybrid role following the University of Calgary's Hybrid Program Guidelines.

The Knowledge Mobilization Specialist will support the value, impact, and knowledge mobilization (VIKM) activities within the One Child Every Child initiative. This role focuses on developing and implementing VIKM tools, supporting research teams, and contributing to impact storytelling. The Specialist will also help coordinate communications, engage partners, and foster collaboration across academic and community-based settings.

This role will be part of the One Child Every Child Program, a Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) initiative, with a vision for all Canadian children to be the healthiest, most empowered and thriving in the world. In 2023, the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) invested $125 million in the University of Calgary's One Child Every Child: A Transformational Child Health Research Initiative. This ground-breaking initiative will transform child health research in Canada, promote Indigenous-led knowledge creation and self-determination, and drive discovery and innovation. It will bring together researchers, community partners, healthcare providers, equity-deserving groups, educators, trainees, stakeholders and Indigenous communities to build the foundation for global excellence and leadership in research to enable every child and community to thrive.

One Child Every Child is a Parallel Paths project that has Indigenous and non-Indigenous Paths. All members of the program will undergo training on working with Indigenous people, communities, and data. Experience with Indigenous community-based work is an asset for members of the OCEC research team.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Development and Implementation of VIKM tools/products/activities:

• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing use of the Value, Impact, and Knowledge Mobilization (VIKM) tools for the VIKM Accelerators as part of the OCEC team (e.g., planning tools, toolkits)
• Assist with integrating the VIKM tools and products across OCEC research teams to enhance planning and knowledge mobilization efforts
• Help design, facilitate and deliver activities (e.g., deliver workshops) to build research team capacity in using VIKM tools and products
• Provide capacity building to OCEC research teams, and triaging to senior team members in the Value, Impact and KM Accelerator when additional specialized expertise is required

Support for capturing and sharing impact:

• Assist in conducting interviews and collecting information from research teams, partners, children/youth, and families to gather insights for impact storytelling
• Support the drafting of impact narratives and liaise with communications teams (OCEC and/or VPR) on layout, design, and web content
• Apply lay-language writing skills across multiple formats and platforms to ensure accessibility and clarity

Develop relationships and engage in strategic networking:

• Collaborate with Indigenous Accelerator and Equitable Path Accelerator to ensure work is developed in accordance with ethical space and equitable principles
• Liaise with other relevant groups across the University of Calgary and within OCEC partners that support value, impact, and knowledge mobilization activities (e.g., University of Calgary's Knowledge to Impact Team)
• Contribute to the University of Calgary's Knowledge Engagement Monthly Community of Practice to support collaboration and continuous learning
• Support the creation and integration of content related to patient, family, and community engagement

Operational Coordination and Knowledge Mobilization Support:

• Manage the VIKM email account, triaging inquiries and coordinating responses with the broader VIKM team
• Help identify and connect OCEC research teams with relevant knowledge mobilization resources
• Stay informed about and apply leading practices in knowledge mobilization and partnership engagement
• Element of community engagement/partnership (connector or broker) to potential OCEC partners

Qualifications / Requirements:

• A Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., health sciences, social sciences, communications, or a related discipline), or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Backgrounds in engagement, knowledge mobilization, or community-based work are considered strong assets
• Minimum of 4-5 years of experience supporting or coordinating projects and/or programs, ideally in research, academic, or community-based settings
• Experience in child health is desired but not necessary
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication, as well as presentation skills, are required, along with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences at all levels
• Ability to translate complex research concepts into clear, accessible language tailored to diverse audiences across various formats and platforms (e.g., reports, web content, social media, presentations)
• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with a range of interest holders, including researchers, patients, families, and community partners
• Familiarity with visual design principles and tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) to support the creation of engaging and accessible materials. Experience with visual storytelling or layout design is considered an asset
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze complex information, and develop practical solutions in a dynamic environment
• Comfortable with project management and willing to learn a new project management tool
• Practical and theoretical understanding of knowledge mobilization principles, strategies, and tools, with the ability to apply them in research contexts
