About the role
Part-time position
19 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Term Effective September 2/25 to December 19/25 and January 5/26 to March 27/26
*Possible extension contingent upon external funding
Job Summary:
To provide quality care with a child-centered approach to the children aged 19 months to 6 years participating in the CNC program at Lord Wolseley and Hampstead Schools.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan appropriate activities for children in accordance with the written program philosophy.
- Provide activities and experiences that meet the individual developmental needs of the children.
- Set up and take down equipment and other items used in the program.
- Maintain accurate records, which may include Registration, Daily Record, Attendance, Child Profile, Safety and Session Management Forms.
- Work with the other staff members to plan and implement activities which will support and encourage English language learning while valuing and maintaining the first language.
- Welcome and become acquainted with parents and orient them to programs and services when necessary.
- Supervise volunteers.
- Purchase program supplies where required.
- Follow the Care for Newcomer Children and River East Transcona School Division Requirements:
- Maintain close contact with parents concerning children's behavior and development in the childcare facility.
- Develop a multicultural and age-appropriate program for children of parents attending the LINC program.
- Inspect CNC space for safety issues and seek corrective action according to procedures.
- Toy cleaning and sanitization.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
Qualifications
- Post Secondary Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Education Level II is required; Candidates currently pursuing this qualification may also be considered.
- Experience working with preschool children
- Valid First Aid Certificate - Level B CPR
- Valid Criminal Record Search and clear Child Abuse Registry Check
- Strong planning, organizational, leadership and communication skills
- Experience working, or ability to work, in a multicultural environment
- Knowledge of an additional language to English an asset
- Upon hire, external applicants must supply a Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Search, and a cleared Child Abuse Registry Check, as conditions of employment.

- Strength, stamina, and ability to work with active, young children
- Demonstrated strong ability to work as a member of a small team

Physical demands:
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
- Able to work in an active physical environment that may require sitting, standing, bending, crouching, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, etc.
- Sufficient vision and hearing to perform related job duties
Working conditions:
- Exposure to frequent interruptions with conflicting demands and varied deadlines
