About the role

We are looking for a  Intermediate Claims Examiner  with  2–5 years of experience  to join our growing team. This role is best suited for someone eager to build their expertise in commercial property claims while working in a supportive, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will manage first-party property claims, including evaluating coverage, working with external adjusters and vendors, and ensuring timely resolution in line with industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial property claims from first report to resolution.
  • Review and interpret commercial policy wordings to determine applicable coverage.
  • Assess damages related to fire, water, windstorm, theft, vandalism, and other perils under commercial property policies.
  • Coordinate and communicate with independent adjusters, contractors, engineers, legal counsel, brokers, and insureds throughout the claims lifecycle.
  • Analyze reports, estimates, expert opinions, and supporting documents to establish liability, confirm quantum, and develop a sound file strategy.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate reserves in accordance with company protocols and evolving claim circumstances.
  • Recommend and negotiate settlements within assigned authority and refer larger matters for approval.
  • Document all file activity and rationale clearly and concisely in the claims system.
  • Maintain file quality and service timelines in line with internal and external expectations.
  • Provide support on other claim types (e.g., Liability, E&O, Accident, Marine) as needed.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and team knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience  handling first-party property claims (commercial lines preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and property policy wordings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional and empathetic tone.
  • Ability to manage multiple claims, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in a digital and paperless claims environment.
  • Experience in a TPA, MGA, or Lloyd's claims environment is an asset.
  • Valid Level 1 Adjuster's license in British Columbia (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Additional experience in related lines (e.g., Liability, E&O) is a plus but not required.
