About the role
Our client is a real estate firm focused on commercial development and investment in Western Canada. They are seeking a Controller to report directly to the CFO to look after IPP, Development and Corporate Accounting functions. The role will include leading a small finance team.
The Role:
- Direct and manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Supervise corporate and project-level accounting operations, maintaining compliance with internal policies and relevant accounting standards.
- Develop, implement, and enforce financial policies and procedures that reflect best practices in the real estate industry.
- Prepare and deliver accurate financial statements and reports to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis to identify key differences between actual results and budgeted cash flows.
- Lead the external audit process by coordinating with auditors and assisting the CFO in the review and approval of audited financials.
- Monitor and uphold internal controls while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement process enhancements to improve efficiency and reporting quality.
The Candidate:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in the field.
- Knowledge of ASPE and Canadian corporate tax
- Bachelor’s degree and a CPA certification
- Must be able to work in Canada
- Proven experience in process improvement and workflow streamlining to enhance operational efficiency.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and review the work of accounting staff
