The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General provides a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan; promotes safe and secure communities; and provides legal and justice policy advice to government.
The Courts and Community Justice Division is seeking a skilled, ethical, confident individual to work at the Regina Provincial Court to provide comprehensive clerical support. As a member of a team of professionals you will be in daily contact with the public, lawyers, police agencies, community agencies and offenders and will:
- Handle walk-in and telephone inquiries regarding court dockets and dispositions, status of accounts, explaining applicable policies and procedures, acts and regulations;
- Receive payments in accordance with court orders and perform basic accounting duties;
- Provide guidance to individuals seeking to file claims in the civil division and general applications within the jurisdiction of Provincial Court;
- Enter and retrieve data using the Criminal Justice Information Management System (CJIMS);
- Prepare and format court documents in accordance with court orders and applicable legislation using the CJIMS system or word processing software;
- Administer and certify court documents to reflect the order of the court;
- Prepare and forward relevant material when transcripts are requested of recorded court proceedings;
- Take payment for fines, surcharges, and bail;
- Be required to climb ladders to retrieve files and carry heavy boxes up to 20 kg that contain files and documents; and
- May be required to travel to and provide support to other court locations.
Our candidate of choice will have the following:
- Knowledge of office administrative practices and procedures, legal terminology, applicable computer hardware and software applications and filing systems;
- Effective communication and positive interpersonal skills; and
- Demonstrated ability to be thorough, analytical, accurate and detail oriented.
The environment in which you will work is potentially hostile, therefore, you must be able to recognize volatile situations and react appropriately. The successful candidate must demonstrate good character in order to maintain the integrity of the justice system and the people it serves and ensure confidentiality within and outside of the place of work in accordance with your Oath of Office.
Typically, the knowledge and experience required for this job is obtained through a post-secondary education program such as an office education diploma/court services administrator certification, supplemented with legal courses and relevant work experience or a combination of education and work experience.
