Northern Lakes College has the following ongoing position available:

Coordinator, Early Learning and Child Care and Educational Assistant Programs

Salary: $70,968 to $109,524 per year
Location: Slave Lake
August 18, 2025 to Ongoing

Qualifications:

  • Completed graduate degree, preferred; However, a combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • 3 years’ experience in a post-secondary setting;
  • 5 years’ experience in online education;
  • A clean vulnerable sector criminal record check;
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.

Nature and Scope of Work

This incumbent will support teaching and learning in the Early Learning and Child Care and Educational Assistant programs by:

  • Mentoring and supporting programs and faculty;
  • Program advising for students;
  • Instruction of courses, as necessary;
  • Additional programming and operational support duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program planning

  • Research and assist other faculty with selection of appropriate course content, textbooks, and resources;
  • Work with Admissions staff to recruit and orientate new students;
  • Work with professional associations as required to support quality of programs;
  • Maintain student academic records.

Administrative

  • Advise applicants and students with accurate and timely information regarding courses and programs;
  • In collaboration with instructional faculty, organize and facilitate student orientation;
  • Coordinate administration of course or program withdrawals and registrations;
  • Submit marks to Student Records, as required;
  • Organize annual Program Advisory Committee meetings;
  • Assist in the scheduling of courses for students.

Mentoring and support of programs, staff and faculty

  • Research and share resources designed to enhance teaching and learning;
  • Foster and support instructional best practices;
  • Review course outlines for currency, and appropriate outcomes;
  • Consult with faculty as required regarding curriculum redesign;
  • Collaborate with instructional faculty to ensure course content meets quality standards;
  • Stay current with institutional practice and maintain open dialogue with instructors.

Program advising for all students

  • Student recruitment;
  • Consult and communicate with faculty around student issues;
  • Assist students in overcoming barriers to learning;
  • Know student rights and responsibilities;
  • Support student performance and/or behavior interventions, as required;
  • Facilitate completion planning process;
  • Assist students with resolution of academic concerns;
  • Act as a resource for students experiencing challenges;
  • Advocate on behalf of students;
  • Monitor student progress;
    • identify and assist students experiencing challenges

Instruction of courses, as necessary

  • Deliver, assess and develop effective curriculum and instruction which meets the needs of diverse and distance students;
  • Inform students of expectations, adapt instructional strategies to meet students’ needs and utilize online educational technologies, as appropriate;
  • Promote a safe and respectful learning environment.

Promote and adhere to College values

  • Maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Ensure security of personal student records (e.g. student files, grade records);
  • Keep student information confidential;
  • Act in accordance with FOIP regulations;
  • Act in accordance with NLC Mission Statement;
  • Adhere to College Policies and Procedures;
  • Participate in Professional Development;
  • Participate in seminars, workshops and courses;
  • Recruitment and admission of students in cooperation with Registrar’s Office.

Successful candidate must provide College or University transcripts and a Criminal Record Check to Human Resources prior to commencement.

This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between Northern Lakes College and the Faculty Association of Northern Lakes College.
