The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

MILL OPERATIONS TRAINER Reporting to the Mine Training Superintendent, the role of a Mill Trainer is to ensure that all Mill Operations and Maintenance employees have the necessary training(s) required to perform their duties. The Mill Trainer must ensure training is in compliance with legislative requirements (OH&S Regulations, Explosives Act, etc.) and conformance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities Area 1:

Provide training support to on site personnel.

  • Establish and maintain communications with all stakeholders of the operation (workers, supervisors, department heads, etc.) to ensure training needs are identified and addressed in a timely manner and risks associated with the business are reduced in order to build and maintain a safe, cost effective, and productive operation.
  • Identifies training needs for Mill Operations and Mill Maintenance employees.
  • Contributes to the research and development of training materials and ensures that the content is both relative and supportive of the course (specifically) and the training program (generally).
  • Schedules and delivers safe and effective classroom, practical, and follow-up operational and mill specific safety training to both Mill Operations employees and Mill Maintenance employees in a timely manner.
  • Schedules and delivers Control Room training to Control Room Operators and Supervisors.
  • Mentors and coaches the employees in the safe, effective and productive operation of all mill operating areas and mill mobile equipment.
  • Schedules field visits to follow up on operator progress and gives feedback and direction where required.
  • Provides direction and mentoring to field Coaches who assist with training.
  • Maintains accurate records of training events and provides training reports and summaries as needed (course outlines, attendance & evaluations).
  • Ensures all training is in compliance with legislative requirements, and in conformance with company policies, and Impact and Benefit Agreements (IBA).
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of effective and comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for interdepartmental functions.
  • Participates in the periodic review & evaluation of existing equipment / policy / procedures / practices and makes recommendations and implements approved improvements.
  • Delivers orientations and specialized certification training as required.
  • Facilitates and presents additional internal training programs targeting the improvement of operator knowledge and skills as well as soft-skill development and policy/procedure training.
  • Demonstrates courageous, safety leadership; adheres to and sponsors safety and environmental rules and procedure compliance to site OHS standards as well as participates in safety initiatives, hazard identification, toolbox meetings and incident investigations where required.

  • Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
  • Ensure problems and inefficiencies are shared with others.
  • Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Consider risk along the five dimensions (throughput, time, quality, sustainability and cost).

Area 3 Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.

  • Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
  • Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
  • Provides assistance in ensuring production goals are achieved by working collaboratively with the operating departments.
  • Liaises with the safety department to ensure that both technical and safety training requirements are being met for employees.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.

Job Qualifications Minimum Requirements And Nice To Haves minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • MTCU mill common core and specialty modules.
  • Train-The-Trainer Certification is considered an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is considered an asset.

Work experience - Nature & Length

  • A thorough understanding of gold mill process plant operations.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a gold process plant operations.
  • Must have the ability to evaluate training requirements and understand the need for continuous improvement.

Additional Qualifications - Competency Requirements

  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is considered an asset.
  • Well organized, works well independently and in a team setting, possesses good time management skills and is able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems
  • Competency with MS Windows and MS Office applications: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
