About the job
In this role, you will:
- provide regional-level and provincial-level support for Biodiversity and Monitoring Section (BAMS) inland lakes monitoring
- support the development and recommendation of program strategies, tactical/operational objectives, and annual work plans to align with ministry business needs and priorities
- support program reviews, transfer program plans and results, and support the communication of program activities to internal and external clients
- support the integration of Science and Research Branch aquatics monitoring, participate in internal technical working groups, and provide expert advice related to sustainable resource management and the development and implementation of aquatic monitoring programs
- support scheduling of science activities and communications, ensuring good communication and collaboration with Science and Research Branch aquatics program staff and management
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements:
- You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
- You must possess or have the ability to obtain a Small Vessel Operators Proficiency (SVOP) licence.
- You must possess or have the ability to obtain MED A-3 (Marine Emergency Duties) certificate issued by Canadian Coast Guard.
- You must possess or have the ability to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operators Licence.
- You must possess or have the ability to obtain a Standard First Aid and CPR certificate.
- You must be able to complete field work in all weather conditions including heavy lifting; and have the ability to work on the water in boats, on ice using snow machines and fly in small aircrafts and helicopters, if required.
Technical knowledge:
- You have knowledge of relevant aquatics legislation policies, procedures, and programs.
- You have knowledge of resource management practices, guideline requirements and planning tools.
- You have comprehensive knowledge of aquatic population and habitat field operations.
- You have knowledge and understanding of the aquatics (population and habitat) ecology of Ontario, as well as related scientific theories, methods, practices and principles and their application in resource management.
- You are proficient with computer software including word processing, data management, spreadsheets and statistical analysis programs to access and analyze information, prepare scientific reports, publications and presentations.
Interpersonal and communication skills:
- You have strong interpersonal and communication skills and are able to provide leadership and facilitation within a regional team.
- You can work independently, as well as within a team environment.
- You have conflict resolution skills to be able to bring contrary views to consensus.
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills to speak at meetings, give presentations and prepare reports.
Analytical and problem solving skills:
- You have strong critical thinking and assessment skills related to science and technical options.
- You have comprehensive knowledge of experimental design and statistical analysis to ensure appropriate monitoring, analytical and reporting frame works are employed.
Project management, coordination and organizational skills:
- You have demonstrated project management, coordination, and organizational skills, including project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, to determine project objectives and effectively organize, track, and disseminate project roles, responsibilities, budgets, progress and outcomes.
