About the role
Copernicus Lodge is a not-for-profit, charitable and ethno-specific organization. Located in the heart of the Roncesvalles community in the heart of west–end Toronto, we provide a continuum of care in a predominantly Polish, Roman Catholic environment to meet the changing needs of our seniors. The Lodge is comprised of an Adult Day Program, 200 independent, affordable self-care apartments with a Supportive Housing program, and a 228 bed Long Term Care home.
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to step into our open Dietary Aide role in our Long Term Care Home. New grads and current students are welcome!
Reporting directly to the Food Service Supervisor, the Dietary Aide performs a variety of tasks integral to the operation and production processes of the Dietary department. This includes:
- Adhering to all requirements related to safe food production, preparation and meal service; infection control practices and employee health and safety program
- Serving meals to residents, tenants, clients, staff and visitors
- Assist with meal production and preparation, preparation of regular and therapeutic nourishments, tray passing, diet changes and preparation and portioning of food items as necessary
- Removing garbage, recycling and slop from the department
- Safely and properly handling cleaning chemicals used in the department
- Ensuring all areas of the kitchen/servery are stocked with clean wares as needed
- Receiving deliveries, storing food and non-food items
- Catering preparation and service
- Dish machine and pot wash operation
- Regular cleaning and sanitation of work areas and department equipment
- Daily cleaning duties and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- Good command of the English language
- Ability to speak/understand Polish would be a definite asset
- Ability and willingness to provide a service that enhances the dignity and respects the cultural and racial diversity of our staff and residents.
- Completion of Food Service Worker program from an approved college is required; consideration will be given to applicants who are currently enrolled in the program; must successfully complete the program within 3 years of hire
- Food Handler’s Certificate is required.
- Computer Knowledge an asset
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutritional supplements.
- Ability to lift, pull and push weights of 25lbs or more frequently throughout shift.
- Must have a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to quality.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changing work routines or priorities.
- Able to work with minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate initiative.
- Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
- Genuine interest in providing services to seniors
- Trustworthy, adhere to confidentiality and privacy of information
- Knowledge of health and safety and infection control practices and guidelines
