About the role
What do we do?
Algonquin Bridge designs and supplies a wide range of steel bridge products and crossing solutions across Canada and beyond. Our bridges fall into two categories: Modular Panel Bridges and Custom Prefabricated Bridges.
Who are we?
At Algonquin Bridge, we're serious about our people, our customers, our profitability—and having fun while we do it. We value integrity, excellence, innovation, and a “Can Do” attitude. We seek team members who are collaborative, accountable, curious, and natural leaders. If that sounds like you, you’ll feel right at home here.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for someone passionate about quality, with a hands-on mindset. This role requires boots on the ground, working directly on the shop floor and in the manufacturing facility. You’ll be deeply involved in inspecting physical products, monitoring processes, and collaborating with the production and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement and maintain high standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection and Documentation:
- Perform routine and detailed physical inspections of fabricated steel bridge components and raw materials on the plant floor.
- Document and report deviations from project specifications, codes, or internal quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, including photographs, measurements, and test results.
Compliance Monitoring:
- Ensure that plant-based manufacturing activities comply with relevant codes, standards, and customer requirements.
- Stay current with evolving industry regulations and implement necessary updates in inspection protocols.
Testing and Analysis:
- Review and interpret test results related to material strength, weld quality, and structural integrity.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve any issues or inconsistencies.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the plant manager, supervisors, project managers, and engineers to support quality initiatives.
- Participate in daily plant operations to provide real-time feedback and foster a culture of quality.
Non-Conformance Resolution:
- Identify and report non-conforming materials or workmanship during fabrication.
- Lead root cause analysis and help implement corrective and preventative actions.
Documentation Review:
- Review blueprints, design drawings, and work instructions to ensure fabrication aligns with quality requirements.
- Coordinate with design and engineering teams to address technical discrepancies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma in Engineering Technology, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred. Certifications in quality inspection or welding inspection are an asset.
- Experience: Prior experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, especially with structural steel or bridge construction, is highly valued.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of fabrication methods, welding processes, materials testing, and QA/QC best practices.
- Communication Skills: Clear communicator who can deliver detailed inspection findings and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a plant setting, including standing for extended periods, climbing, and lifting light to moderate loads as needed for inspections.
Accessibility Commitment:
Algonquin Bridge is committed to a barrier-free recruitment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code. Accommodations are available upon request.
