Manning Elliott LLP is seeking a motivated and accomplished Senior Accountant to join our Private Company group.
The Senior Accountant position plays a crucial role in providing high-quality financial services to clients. The primary purpose of this role is to support the audit and assurance team by conducting financial statement reviews, preparing complex tax returns, and analyzing accounting systems. The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for mentoring junior staff members, managing client relationships, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ultimately, the Senior Accountant contributes to the firm's reputation for delivering exceptional accounting services and upholding the highest ethical standards in the industry.
Reports to: Manager/Senior Manager/Partner
Responsibilities
- Understands client business and identifies issues and suggests improvements
- Is able to produce concise and complete reports for review by engagement manager
- Applies technical knowledge and research in formulating client and firm related recommendations
- Working with the engagement manager, anticipates engagement issues and risks, assesses alternatives and takes appropriate action
- Preparation of personal and trust returns
- Train and mentor junior team members and provide feedback to ensure they are able to make improvements on subsequent engagements
- Plan and execute notice to readers and review engagements, including preparation of financial statements in accordance with ASPE standards
- Build effective working relationships with client contacts, and respond effectively to client requests
- Identify new business opportunities with existing clients
- Ensure compliance with internal control and policies
- Coordinate more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting team and other departments
- Reviewing journal entries of junior accountants to ensure accuracy
- Perform various analyses and prepare account reconciliations
- Assist with the management of clients and foster excellent relationships while seeking out new business opportunities
- Communicating with other members of the client service team, including partners and managers, to ensure client expectations are met and managed in a timely manner
- Actively supports and participates in firm wide initiatives
- Participates in the firm’s Team Development and Performance Management Program
- Promote the firm’s Quality Control Standards
Qualifications
- Designated CPA
- 1-2 years experience post-designation
- Minimum 2-4 years experience working with private, owner managed clients in a public accounting firm
- Strong working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Computer software proficiency (Caseware, Tax Prep)
- Fundamental financial accounting and tax knowledge
- Sound foundation of preparing Canadian personal and corporate income tax returns
- Strong Mandarin and English communication skills - written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure
- Provides quality service
- Creative problem solving ability
- Strong engagement management skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- At minimum, 1 year experience managing and mentoring Junior Accountants
- Identifies engagement issues and attempts to resolve them
