The Health & Safety Specialist position is a great opportunity for an experienced individual to gain additional knowledge, skills and grow, while supporting ERAC’s health and safety management system (HSMS), regulatory compliance requirements, and advocating and promoting a strong safety culture with ERAC employees and responder community. All training and mentorship will be offered through the support of ERAC’s Safety & Emergency Management Director.
Reporting to the Safety & Emergency Management Director, the Health & Safety Specialist will take a lead role in developing, implementing, managing and evaluating functions of ERAC’s health and safety management system, such as HSMS documentation system administration, contractor safety management program, COR audits, gap analysis, formal hazard and risk assessments, quality writing of policies and procedures, and training. In addition, the successful candidate will have a good understanding of, and be able to, interpret provincial and federal acts and regulations related to safety, environment and the transportation of dangerous goods. All duties to be carried out while keeping ERAC’s mission, vision and values top of mind.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Certificate or higher in occupational health and safety
- 5 years’ relevant experience in a safety-related position
- 5 years’ relevant experience in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulatory compliance
- Knowledge and experience with hazard assessments, and safety and risk management
- Experience in strategic planning, prioritizing, supervision, detailed report writing and problem solving
- Strong command and proficiency in English is required for effective communication, both written and verbal
- A Class 5 driver’s license, or equivalent in provinces outside of Alberta
- A driver’s abstract free of violations
- No criminal record
- Drug and alcohol testing, satisfactory to ERAC
Preferred attributes:
- CRST, or CRSP designation
- Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 9001
- Bilingual (French/English)
