Purpose and Scope The IT Specialist role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing an organization's technology infrastructure. Their role is crucial in ensuring that computer systems, networks, and digital communication tools operate smoothly and securely.

Responsibilities

  • Support both an office and manufacturing environment with users of varying technical skillsets
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, software, networked peripheral devices, cabling, and networking hardware and software products
  • Diagnose, resolve, and document hardware, software and network problems in a timely fashion and provide end user training and support where required.
  • Maintain server environment (on-premise and cloud) hosting AD, SQL, Print, File Shares and their associated operating systems and software.
  • Maintain security solutions, including firewall, endpoint protection, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Maintain all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, access points and UPSs.
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls and/or e-mails regarding system issues, network connectivity problems or user desktop software issues.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Support development and implementation of technology projects and new technology installations.
  • Conduct research on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software products.
  • Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets.
  • Aid in development and execution of business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Respond to emergency outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Perform server, network and security audits.
  • Maintain backup plan and perform system backups and recovery.
  • Collaborate with Business Systems Team to create optimal designs and configurations for network and related infrastructure/
  • Work with end users and department heads to identify and document issues proactively using industry best practices.
  • Work to meet service level agreements with end users.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Education and Training
  • College Diploma or University Degree in the field of computer science, information sciences, or related field and/or 2 years equivalent recent work experience.
  • Industry Certifications are an asset (CompTIA, Network+, CSSP, ITIL, M365, etc.)
  • Technical Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in a Help Desk/IT Support/System Support role
  • Experience with medium-to-enterprise networks (LAN, WAN, firewalls, wireless)
  • Significant experience with desktop and server operating systems, including all Windows Platforms.
  • 2+ years of experience with configuring and supporting a Microsoft 365 tenant including Intune, Defender, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, etc.
  • Proven understanding of cyber security best practices and methodologies
  • Advanced understanding of maintenance requirements for Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Experience with the administration, management and maintenance of VMware and Azure environments.
  • Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset
