Acting as the primary point of contact during active operations, this role maintains real-time situational awareness, manages shifting priorities, and ensures seamless coordination with internal teams, air carriers, and service providers. The Shift Manager monitors performance metrics, addresses operational challenges as they arise, and ensures adherence to all Transport Canada and environmental regulations. • Liaise daily with key GTAA stakeholders including the Manager Operations Airside Ground (MOAG), Manager Operations Aircraft Flow (MOAF), and the Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC) to align on operational plans.
  • Execute GTAA’s Ground Deicing Operations Program, ensuring alignment with carrier programs and compliance with all applicable Transport Canada, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain situational awareness of changing weather patterns and their impact on flow and capacity at deicing facilities.
  • Ensure high standards of safety, quality, environmental compliance, and cost efficiency across all aspects of deicing operations.
  • Identify operational gaps, recommend updates to SOPs and protocols, and drive process innovations to improve safety and performance.
  • Manage and mentor a high-performing team, promoting accountability, customer focus, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Analyze operational data and feedback to inform both tactical adjustments and long-term strategic planning.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, including deicing contractors, air carriers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee personnel, equipment, and contracted services to ensure sufficient supply of deicing fluids, effective spent fluid management, and operational readiness.
  • Clearly communicate the operational vision, empowering teams to innovate, navigate challenges, and contribute to GTAA’s broader mission.

This is the role for you, if you have:

  • A post-secondary degree or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Strong focus on data/metrics, including a solid knowledge of Key Performance Indicators and Service Level Agreements to achieve compliance.
  • Proven experience in complex, safety-critical airport or airline operations, preferably with deicing or winter operations management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and make real-time decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain Airside Driver’s Vehicle Operator Permit (‘D/A’ AVOP).
