About the role

Job Description:

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient & staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager or designate, performs a variety of transcription, booking, reception, timekeeping, and clerical duties for the Program. Using personal computer and/or dictaphone, inputs patient, statistical, and billing data into the appropriate systems. Assists and transports patients within the department and hospital depending on the inpatient workload.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Grade 12, graduation from an approved program in medical transcription and one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to keyboard 60 wpm.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to organize work.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.

  • Ability to deal effectively with others.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
