About the Role:
The primary focus of this position is to ensure that our department aligns with Enbridge’s strategic goals by executing the right projects. You will provide direction and technical expertise in hydraulics engineering for pipeline operations, optimization, and troubleshooting. Your role will also involve developing, managing, and executing proposals and programs to enhance the process safety of our pipeline systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct hydraulic studies using modeling software to analyze pipeline systems, address design and maintenance issues, and issue formal technical recommendations.
- Provide engineering support and troubleshoot hydraulics problems within assigned asset areas.
- Identify and recommend enhancements to engineering standards and specifications.
- Review and provide technical direction in the development of transient and steady-state hydraulic analysis models and technical reports.
- Execute and review feasibility studies, conceptual designs, and detailed engineering designs to ensure compliance with Enbridge quality processes and industry regulations.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to hydraulic design and processes.
- Maintain proficiency with in-house and industry-recognized hydraulics engineering tools.
- Ensure effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, leading meetings and discussions as required.
- Guide project teams to ensure competitive designs and operational reliability.
- Support the implementation and execution of technical recommendations.
- Collaborate with multi-discipline teams to assist with company engineering initiatives.
- Develop documentation outlining design parameters, assumptions, and results for clear communication with relevant departments.
- Support Project Execution teams to ensure project requirements are met and exceeded where technically justified.
- Participate in scope development of pipeline and facility projects and PHA reviews as needed.
Scope and Dimensions:
- Focus on complex technical issues in support of an assigned area of the enterprise.
- Provide specialized technical knowledge and leadership in mentoring less experienced staff.
- Represent the department in internal technical reviews and discussions to reduce costs and ensure fit-for-purpose design.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Senior-level technical competence in hydraulic design and engineering within the oil & gas industry.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively complex hydraulic engineering experience.
- Detailed knowledge of hydraulic modeling software such as Synergie Pipeline Simulator (SPS) and AFT Fathom.
- Working knowledge of liquid pipeline and facility operations.
- Must be registered or qualify to register as a P.Eng. in the Province of Alberta.
- Effective two-way communication skills, including excellent English oral and written skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with peers, stakeholders, management, vendors, and service providers.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, organization, and planning skills.
- Commitment to continuous technical learning and personal development.
- Ability to travel within Canada and the United States.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with assessment methodologies such as PHA, HAZOP, or LOPA.
Working Conditions:
- Office environment with occasional travel to construction and operating sites.
- Short overnight business and/or field trips.
