About the Role

The Laundry Attendant reports to the Support Services Manager and/or designate and provides laundry services for residents and guests in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the community while providing a safe work environment for all persons served.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

  • Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.

  • Processes linens, drapes, personal resident clothing that will include collection and redistribution to appropriate locations.

  • Stock cupboards with clean linens as per quotas.

  • Washes, dries, sorts, folds, hang items.

  • Uses labeling equipment to label and re-label residents’ clothing to ensure name is clear and accurate.

  • Operates and maintains equipment including washers, dryers and transport carts based on the established guidelines.

  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:

  • accident prevention,

  • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,

  • the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary

  • keeps work area in an orderly, safe and clean condition, and

  • Utilizing infection control procedures

  • Recommends ordering of chemicals and facility linens.

  • Actively participates in orientation of new staff and attends and participates in community education programs.

  • Cross trained to work within other areas of support services as required.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate as applicable.
  • Food Safe Certificate an asset.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment. Also, must be free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions which may be aggravated by working with cleaners, detergents, and equipment.
