About the role

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors to support the Foundation's strategic priorities. This role requires a motivated and compassionate individual who thrives on building relationships and inspiring philanthropic investment.

As a vital part of the Foundation Team, the MGO will help grow fundraising through teamwork, creativity, and individual gift solicitations. As a vital member of our small but mighty team, you will help shape the future of care in our community by securing major gifts and supporting the vital projects, programs, and equipment at Erie Shores HealthCare and The Hospice, Erie Shores Campus.

Essential Job Functions

Major Gifts Portfolio Development

  • Develop, manage, and grow a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, focusing on contributions of mid-level to high-level donations from individuals, organizations, and businesses
  • Demonstrated success in closing major gifts of 5 and 6 figures.
  • Cultivate relationships through regular communication, personalized stewardship, donor visits, tours, and events
  • Write and deliver compelling proposals, impact reports, and case statements
  • Act as an ambassador and champion of legacy, monthly, and annual giving to all stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Represent the Foundation at cheque presentations, community events, and speaking engagements
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and campaign team on capital and priority project fundraising initiatives and capital campaign development
  • Collaborate with the campaign team to establish annual and multi-year plans to achieve fundraising goals
  • Maintain accurate and timely donor records and activity tracking
  • Network with and solicit new and current strategic partners

Required Skills

  • Progressive fundraising experience and/or relevant experience with a degree/diploma in a related field
  • Demonstrated commitment to the non-profit sector
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Advanced skills in public speaking, persuasive writing, active listening, and message adaptation for diverse audiences
  • Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office and databases required.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings or weekends on occasion.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel throughout Essex County.
  • Diplomacy and confidentiality mandatory

Assets

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT

  • Capital Campaign experience

  • Professional membership and/or a CFRE designation
