About the role

Overview: The Accounts Receivable (A/R) Clerk is responsible for providing financial, clerical and administrative services to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations. The Accounts Receivable Clerk must comply with established accounting policies and procedures. The A/R Clerk is directly responsible for performing data entry and related duties in posting accounts receivable payments; including maintaining ledgers, credit balances, and resolving account irregularities. This position involves diplomatic interaction with customers to provide billing information and support in order to facilitate swift payment of invoices due to the organization.

Reports to: The Accounts Receivable Clerk works under the direction of the Senior Accountant and shall report to the Senior Accountant. The Accounts Receivable Clerk may, on occasion, report to the Controller, as requested.

Duties and responsibilities of the Accounts Receivable Clerk include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare monthly reports: receivables and accruals;
  • Administer accounts receivables;
  • Reconcile receivables accounts monthly;
  • Assist with maintaining internal financial controls and procedures;
  • Maintain up-to-date billing system and invoice accounts;
  • Generate and send out invoices;
  • Follow up, initiate collection and allocation of payments;
  • Research and solve payment discrepancies;
  • Prepare and complete bank deposits;
  • Prepare adjustments for approvals and post adjustments once approved;
  • Set up and prepare monthly accruals for month end; and
  • undertake such other duties and tasks as may lie within the scope of this position to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Possesses knowledge of aboriginal or Siksika culture, language and history. The ability to speak Blackfoot fluently is an asset.
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures and standard clerical techniques.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices and procedures as applied to general bookkeeping and accounting records.
  • Possess the ability and skills required in numeric and accurate calculations.
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Possess strong effective communication skills; both orally and written.
  • Possessing conflict resolution skills is an asset.
  • Possess knowledge and prior experience of accounts receivable.
  • Prior experience in debt collections is an asset.
  • Knowledgeable of local, provincial and federal laws, regulatory standards regarding accounting and finances;
  • Possess technical accounting skills;
  • Proficiency in relevant accounting software is an asset;

Certifications:

  • Clean criminal record check

Education / Experience/Training:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years accounts receivable and general accounting experience.
  • Basic Accounting Diploma, degree or equivalent. Enrolled in an accounting degree or financial related degree program is an asset.
  • Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager designation is an asset.

Work Environment:

  • There is a high degree of stress inherent in the job. Work volume is excessive on an ongoing basis.
  • Travel may be required.
