About this opportunity
Cenovus’s New Grad Program aims to attract, develop and retain exceptional new grads to build a top talent pipeline for the company. The program provides new grads with a broad understanding of Cenovus’s core business through challenging work assignments, training and development, field exposure and the opportunity to develop a large network of contacts through networking and mentorship opportunities.
Our Program consists of three consecutive 12-month rotational assignments that span Cenovus’s varied business areas. Upon completion of the three-year program, you will be matched to a permanent role within the organization. This role will be based on business need and relocation may be required. Roles could include placements in:
- Finance: Where you will work on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support the company's financial health and strategic decision-making.
- Corporate Development: Involving strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and market analysis to drive growth and long-term objectives for the company.
- Planning: Focusing on creating and implementing business plans, supporting the development of strategies, and ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
- Investor Relations: Where you will handle communication with investors and stakeholders, prepare investor presentations, and provide insights into company performance and strategy.
- Accounting: Involving the preparation and analysis of financial documents, ensuring adherence to regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Portfolio Management: Coordinating the company’s asset portfolio, evaluating investments, and ensuring efficient performance aligned with strategic goals.
- Risk: Identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial, operational, and market risks to protect the company's assets and ensure balanced operations.

What you’ll do
Responsibilities may include:
- Build and maintain financial models to evaluate capital projects, transportation commitments, and M&A opportunities. Perform consolidated financial modeling for various scenarios and compare key metrics to support strategic decision-making.
- Maintain the company-wide Portfolio Management Tool to support asset screening, financial evaluation, and strategic trade-offs. Conduct scenario analysis to assess the impact of commodity prices, government policies, and asset development strategies on corporate performance.
- Communicate with investors and analysts to provide timely and accurate information about the company’s financial performance, strategy, and outlook.
- Leverage analytical tools to assess deal price exposure from both physical and financial commodity transactions.
- Ensure adherence to market risk management policies and procedures across the organization.
- Manage fixed assets by tracking acquisitions, disposals, and transfers, maintaining the sub-ledger, and preparing reports.
- Utilize quantitative scoring models in credit risk decisions, define risk, apply mitigation strategies, participate in contract negotiations, and recommend credit limits.
- Support the development of Cenovus's annual budget and long-term business plan.
- Prepare reports and presentations on the budget and business plan for the Cenovus Leadership Team.
Who you are
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Available to begin work September 2025
- Must have an undergraduate Accounting, Finance or Commerce related program degree obtained by May 31, 2025, or completed within the last 2 years (2023, 2024 or 2025).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a high attention to detail.
- Proactive mindset with a strong desire to learn and an eagerness to adapt, tackle challenges and find new ways of looking at problems and processes.
- The Program strives to develop employees at the beginning of their careers, and as such, you must have less than 2 years of professional experience related to your discipline of study (not including co-op or student positions).
