About the role
The Cambridge Food Bank is seeking a reliable, energetic Shipper/Receiver to join our team. This is a physically demanding role that involves being on your feet all day, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in a fast-paced warehouse environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods in and out of our facility while also interacting with donors and program participants in a professional and welcoming manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load and unload delivery trucks efficiently and safely
- Receive and sort incoming donations and shipments
- Maintain accurate inventory records and stock organization
- Use computer systems to complete data entry and inventory tracking
- Prepare outgoing shipments and assist with donation drop-offs and pick-ups when needed
- Ensure the warehouse is clean, safe, and organized
- Follow all health and safety protocols, including food safety protocols
- Provide excellent customer service to donors and participants
- Support occasional evening and weekend special events
Requirements:
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
- Able to stand and move for extended periods
- Experience with shipping, receiving, and inventory management
- Comfortable using computers and basic data entry systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid driver’s licence with a clear driver’s abstract
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Assets:
- Experience driving cargo vans or similar vehicles
- Safe Food Handling Training
- Familiarity with non-profit or community service organizations

About Cambridge Food Bank
The Cambridge Food Bank offers food and support to people and community groups in need within Cambridge and North Dumfries. We encourage self-reliance through programs and services. We respect all people equally. We strive to encourage a sense of community, extend a caring hand, and develop each person's strengths and life skills. Our vision is that every person will have access to healthy food and opportunities for growth.
Last year our Emergency Food Program provided 10,349 Emergency Hampers to our participants. We also distributed 909,244 pounds of food to our participants and 26 community agencies. Our Saturday meal program, Mike's Lunch served 1,753 meals to people experiencing hunger within the community.
The Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank is unique in operating a Food Co-operative program for low-income individuals and families. Members join the co-op and contribute $10 per month and volunteer 4 hours per month, either at the food bank or in the wider community. Members receive food pick-ups every two weeks to supplement their regular grocery budget. Co-op membership offers opportunities for skill development and personal growth. Co-op participants assist Food Bank staff to carry out many duties including helping in the warehouse repacking and restocking shelves. The Co-op offers opportunities for members to prepare for the job market.
