About the role

Job Summary:

As part of our program to implement an integrated fleet tracking, crew tracking, and airport turn management solution, we are seeking a SOCC Subject Matter Expert (SME) to represent Commercial Operations (SOC) within the initiative.

This role will report into the Business Lead for the program and serve as the key functional lead for operations control across all program phases. The SOCC SME will be instrumental in ensuring that all aspects of the operating day — including delay recovery, cancellations, aircraft swaps, and plan execution — are accurately captured, integrated, and supported by the new systems.

The SOC SME acts as the authoritative voice for day-of-operation coordination, supporting solution design and integration efforts that impact operational control, recovery processes, and communications to internal and external stakeholders.

If you’re passionate about delivering clarity, control, and continuity across the day-of-operations landscape and want to shape the tools and systems that support this mission-critical function, we welcome your expression of interest.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the program’s functional lead for SOC-related requirements, including disruption management and operational decision-making workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with the Business Lead, IT, Flight Operations, Airports, Crew Scheduling, Technical Operations, Network Planning, and Revenue Management to ensure SOC dependencies are fully reflected in system design.
  • Define and validate workflows for recovery management: delays, diversions, cancellations, and aircraft reassignment.
  • Ensure that operational execution visibility and situational awareness tools meet the real-time decision-making needs of the SOC.
  • Support the mapping of roles, responsibilities, and notifications across the communication chain — internal stakeholders, partners, and external agencies.
  • Contribute to user acceptance testing, operational simulations, and stakeholder training from a Commercial Operations perspective.
  • Identify change impacts to SOC roles and procedures; provide input to change management and business continuity plans.
  • Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy.

Behavioural Competencies:

  • Concern for Safety: Identifying hazardous or potentially hazardous situations and taking appropriate action to maintain a safe environment for self and others.
  • Teamwork: Working collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals.
  • Passenger/Customer Service: Providing service excellence to internal and/or external customers (passengers).
  • Initiative: Dealing with situations and issues proactively and persistently, seizing opportunities that arise.
  • Results Focus: Focusing efforts on achieving high quality results consistent with the organization’s standards.
  • Fostering Communication: Listening and communicating openly, honestly, and respectfully with different audiences, promoting dialogue and building consensus.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in airline operations control or commercial operations, with an emphasis on day-of-operations oversight.
  • Thorough knowledge of irregular operations management, network coordination, and critical communication workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with airline operations systems and tools used in dispatch, aircraft movement tracking, and integrated planning.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to represent the interests of a 24/7 operations center in cross-functional settings.
  • Experience participating in complex systems implementations or operational transformation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with flight movement tools (e.g., CAE, LH Systems, NavBlue, AIMS, Jeppesen, etc.).
  • Understanding of performance metrics and decision support tools for commercial operations.
