Job Description Facilities management today is more dynamic and integral to business success than ever before. Once focused solely on managing buildings, the role now connects people, places, and processes to enhance safety, quality of life, and workplace productivity.

As Facilities Supervisor, your mission is to lead a high-performing team, reduce operational costs, improve service delivery, and support strategic business outcomes across our Canadian portfolio of over 350,000 square feet. You will report to the Senior Facilities Manager and be responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring facilities are safe, functional, and compliant with all relevant standards.

This hands-on role requires strong technical expertise, proactive problem-solving skills, and a passion for continuous improvement. You’ll supervise maintenance activities, coordinate with contractors, and uphold best-in-class service levels that support the core business and its people.

We’re looking for a driven professional with leadership experience in facilities operations, a focus on efficiency, and the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations of local facilities teams and contracted service providers, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Coordinate, assign, and oversee maintenance activities, ensuring high-quality outcomes and alignment with service standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for employees regarding facility maintenance and building operations, delivering exceptional internal customer service.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance and repair needs, coordinating in-house resources or working with Supply Chain to source external contractors when required.
  • Proactively manage facilities-related contracts and vendor relationships to ensure performance, compliance, and optimal value.
  • Implement and maintain operational standards, policies, and procedures, including site-specific facility protocols and documentation.
  • Assist in budget planning and ensure maintenance activities are delivered within approved budget allocations.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance practices, reduce equipment downtime, and boost operational efficiency.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations and policies.
  • Provide on-call support as needed for emergency or off-hours issues.
  • Travel may be required to support multiple locations.

Qualifications Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant technical field or a valid trade certification, combined with equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in facilities operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Industry certifications such as Facility Management Professional (FMP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or Building Operator Certification (BOC) are considered strong assets.

Skills And Abilities

  • Strong mechanical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, pumps, and electrical systems, with the ability to support troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
  • Solid understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, building and fire codes, and relevant regulations and standards related to facilities maintenance and operations.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with an ability to build and mentor teams.
  • Ability to engage professionally with internal stakeholders, vendors, and contractors.
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems and their operation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project) and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; French is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance.
