Summer Student (8-weeks contract)

To begin July 01, 2025

35 hours per week $19.50 per hour

Because this role is dependent on Canada Summer Student Funding through Employment and Social Development, candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

· is between 16 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

· was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;

· intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;

· is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;

· is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;

· is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

*Foreign students are not eligible.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIY:

The CPH Summer Recreation Support Worker is directly accountable to their CPH Community Inclusion Support Leader and indirectly to the Executive Director. He/she shall be directly accountable for providing high quality support to people, working together with their support team and Community Inclusion Support Leader to ensure that goals and objectives are met. Specifically, the Recreation Support Worker is responsible to:

· Provide direct support in a manner that is consistent with CPH philosophy and personalized support plans.

· Develop strong, positive relationships with the people they support, their families, co-supports and external agencies involved with the people CPH serves.

· Participate in Person Centred Planning for people receiving support.

· Attend training, team meetings, etc… as requested/required.

· Provide assistance to the Direct Support Workers in tasks as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Summer Recreation Support Worker reports directly to the Community Inclusion Support Leader. There is approximately 4-10 full-time and part-time positions on house support teams. Therefore, a team approach to providing high quality, person centered support is essential.

Good relations must be developed and maintained with the people we support, their network (family, friends, and personal networks), CPH management personnel and other co-supports at CPH.

The most important decisions of the CPH Summer Recreation Support Worker relate to quality of life and support provided to individuals. An area of main focus should be ensuring the support provided is of high quality, person centered, and in harmony with CPH philosophy and Gentle Teaching.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

  1. Provides Summer Recreation Support consistent with CPH beliefs and values and Gentle Teaching.

  2. Support to people may include:

  • Assisting people in problem solving or decision making
  • Providing personal care assistance as needed
  • Assisting people in completing tasks in the community (i.e. physical assistance with transport, monetary exchanges with vendors, etc…)
  • Sharing and/or developing options for community involvement, employment or recreation.
  • Liaising and cooperating with Community Inclusion Support Leader
  • Maintaining valid First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification and be willing to provide First Aid assistance if necessary.
  1. Team Work:
  • Maintains opens and honest communication on a regular basis with their Community Inclusion Support Leader and co-supports
  • Completes all required paperwork
  • Provides support consistently as scheduled
  1. Ensuring that all matters relating to the support and care provided to the people served by CPH shall be treated with the utmost confidence and not discussed with people outside of the support team or in the presence of other people being supported by CPH.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· People wishing to enter the care-giving field.

· Direct experience with or knowledge and belief in CPH philosophy and Gentle Teaching.

· Strong organizational and communication skills.

· Valid CLASS 5 Driver’s License & access to a reliable vehicle (REQUIRED)

· A working knowledge of the following is an asset:

  • Alternative communications
  • Intellectual and/or developmental disability

It is desirable that this position sees the importance of the individually oriented support plans for each person served. This position should also demonstrate both creativity and common sense when serving people.
