Job Description We are currently seeking a Credit Manager I to join our team for temporary 14.5 month contract.
The Credit Manager I, Commercial Credit assists the Senior Manager, Commercial Credit in managing First West’s portfolio of commercial credit facilities and the credit risk associated with the granting of such facilities, within established controls. Responsibilities include: administers the margining of commercial lines of credit to ensure that the appropriate risk controls, guidelines, lending practices, terms and conditions are applied; adjudicates commercial credit applications within assigned limits and recommends deals above their limits to the Senior Manager, Commercial Credit for approval; advises and guides Commercial Banking Advisors on the viability of proposed credit facilities; performs the key tasks of reviewing and renewing commercial credit facilities in the credit union’s portfolio and manages the credit risk associated with the annual review and renewal process.

Accountabilities
- Credit Adjudication: Adjudicates commercial credit applications within authorized lending limits and/or provides recommendations on credit applications exceeding authorized lending limits; ensures all loans are in line with applicable controls and guidelines and any risk to the credit union is mitigated. Provides advice and guidance to Commercial Banking team on the viability of applications and associated risk; interprets lending policy and procedures; recommends alternative approaches to minimize risk.
- Risk Management: Assists the Senior Manager, Commercial Credit in managing First West’s commercial credit portfolio by monitoring lending activities and ensuring that quality controls, risk mitigation practices; and policies and procedures are in place and are being applied consistently and effectively.
- Annual Reviews: Completes annual reviews and renews credit facilities in the commercial credit portfolio; identifies areas of potential risk and initiates action to mitigate potential losses within established controls, identifies quality deficiencies and/or areas of risk and recommends mitigation and follow-up action; ensures that all associated periodic reporting is accurate and up to date.
- Margins: Monitors margins applied on commercial lines of credit and ensures that the appropriate guidelines, lending practices, and terms and conditions are applied; identifies areas of potential risk and initiates action to mitigate potential losses within established controls, identifies quality deficits and recommends mitigation and follow-up action. Performs key administrative tasks to ensure adequate level of monitoring and performance of the LOC margining platform.
- Credit Pricing: Monitors and reports on use of pricing guidelines on all commercial credit products subject to an annual review or renewal within the commercial portfolio; looks for ways to improve both interest and non-interest income and to ensure pricing is adjusted for risk and is consistent with credit union policy. Performs key administrative tasks to ensure adequate level of monitoring and performance of the credit loans origination system.
- Auditing & Reporting: Completes internal file quality assurance audits for loans approved within the limits of commercial banking hubs. Completes various internal credit reports for senior management as required.
People/Thought Leadership
- Provides functional/technical guidance or advice to other employees(no direct supervisory responsibilities)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required or an equivalent combination of education & experience
- 5 years’ experience in commercial lending required
- Proven ability analyzing complex financial statements and non-financial credit risk analysis required
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory requirements related to commercial credit adjudication required
- Proven abilities in construction-financing credit risk analysis preferred
Competencies
- Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and apply an analytical approach to problem solving or decision making
- Effective time management skills with ability to prioritize work and multi-task
- Strong negotiating skills
Skills
- Proficient with computer software applications e.g. Microsoft Office
- Familiar with loans origination programs
Travel
- Overnight travel may be occasionally required, up to 6 times per year

- Displays an understanding of risk and risk ownership by being able to demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.
