Our Recruitment Process:

It takes a special type of person to be successful in this role: a rescue mentality, tenacity with troubleshooting, a commitment to safety, and exceptional customer service. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect as you go through our recruitment process.

  • Step 1 – Apply online to show your interest: We encourage you to include a cover letter describing your interest in this career, your passion for specific aspects of the position, and any relatable experience that will help you succeed. Our Talent Scouts will review your submission, and shortlisted candidates will be invited via email to schedule a prescreen video call.
  • Step 2 – Prescreen video call with our Talent Scouts: This call is for us to learn about you, but also for you to learn more about the role and ensure it’s the right fit. We’ll go through the details of the position (responsibilities, compensation and variable pay bonuses, training and progression), answer any questions you might have, discuss your career story and relevant experience, and confirm the minimum qualifications for the position.
  • Step 3 – In-Person interview with our Fleet Supervisors: Successful candidates will be invited to our Service Centre Shop to meet with our fleet supervisors. You’ll need to bring a recent (within the past 30 days) personal driver's abstract and your list of supervisory references. They will go through a variety of behavioural, situational, and minor troubleshooting interview questions.
  • Step 4 – Pre-employment checks: Successful candidates will be contacted to schedule our pre-employment assessments. This includes a physical test completed by Surehire, where you’ll go through the repetitive job movements of the position (Stretches, cardio, and squats with a 75 lb weight). You’ll also complete a Professional Driving Assessment, where you’ll drive one of our vehicles and a trainer would observe your driving ability (similar to completing a class 5 road test where we expect our drivers to lead by example on the road — courteous, respectful, and committed to safety at all times.)
  • Step 5 – Offer and start date: Once all pre-employment checks and references have been completed and reviewed, successful candidates will be contacted to discuss a start date and to complete the required Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. An offer letter will then be generated.
  • Step 6 – Your first week: Your supervisor will help you get familiar with the team, set you up for training, and you'll attend a new hire orientation alongside other new members of the AMA family from across the association.

About AMA - Alberta Motor Association

Consumer Services

AMA is a multi-service organization representing 1 million Albertans. While most often known for our roadside assistance program, we also offer travel, registries and insurance services, Alberta’s largest driver education school, a member rewards program and member events in our communities. Part of the CAA and AAA family, we’re focused on our member’s needs and guided by their values to provide products, services and advocacy to help them live confidently.

Anyone here will tell you that we’re a different kind of employer, and it all comes down to how we treat our members - and each other. We've boiled it down to just two words: Practically Family. That’s not just a catchy phrase, we live it every day through simple gestures.

Practically Family is the web developer heading off shift who stops to help a team member carry items in the door, the insurance advisor who uses their break to pick up an extra coffee for a co-worker who’s having a bad day, or the registries agent who takes the time to help a member put their new licence plate on their vehicle. Not to mention all the birthday parties, free food days and wedding showers we throw for each other!

Taking care of one another, encouraging one another. It’s what family does, and what being Practically Family is all about. If you can picture yourself answering yes to the question, “Am I treating this member or colleague like a close family member or friend?” with every interaction, you’re our kind of people!
