Job Summary The IT License Manager is responsible for managing the organization’s software licenses and ensuring compliance with licensing agreements. This role involves overseeing procurement, deployment, usage, and renewal of software licenses, as well as supporting audit readiness and optimizing license costs across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a centralized inventory of all software licenses and related documentation.
- Monitor software usage to ensure compliance with vendor licensing agreements.
- Manage license renewals, upgrades, and expirations to avoid lapses in coverage or non-compliance.
- Consolidation of data necessary for license management
- Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to track license-related expenditures.
- Serve as the point of contact for software vendors and licensing partners.
- Conduct regular internal audits and support external software compliance audits.
- Analyze usage data to identify underused or unused licenses and recommend cost-saving actions.
- Stay up to date with licensing models and vendor terms (Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, Autodesk, etc.).
- Develop and enforce software asset management (SAM) policies and best practices.
- Creation of gudelines, measures and control mechanisms for legal compliance
- Supporting specialist departments in Strategic software reuirement planning
- Provide training and support to internal teams on license compliance and software usage policies.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in software asset management, IT procurement, or IT operations.
- Knowledge of major vendor software licensing such as Microsoft, RedHat, Oracle and IBM
- Strong understanding of software licensing models (subscription, perpetual, concurrent, etc.).
- Experience with SAM tools (e.g., LanSweeper, ServiceNow, ManageEngine, Snow License Manager).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and vendor negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of ITIL and ISO 19770 (Software Asset Management standards) is a plus
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM)
- ITIL Foundation
- Microsoft Certified: Licensing Specialist (or equivalent)
- ISO/IEC 19770-1 Certified
Skills and Competencies:
- Detail-oriented and proactive
- Risk-aware with a strong compliance mindset
- Financial acumen for cost analysis and reporting
- Able to work cross-functionally with IT, procurement, legal, and finance teams
