MUSIC TEACHER

Part-time (0.2 FTE) position

Westcot Elementary School

Effective September 2, 2025 until June 30, 2026

*The annual salary for a full-time teaching position ranges from $59,*711 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The salary will be prorated based on FTE.

Required Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

  • Trained and have experience delivering a developmental music program for elementary aged children;
  • Experience accompanying and leading choral groups;
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing an arts integration approach teaching learning outcomes across all curriculum; specifically in the area of integrating Music instruction into STEM related learning
  • A clear understanding of the developmental stages of elementary aged students and an ability to develop a dynamic, positive learning environment addressing the intellectual, physical and emotional needs of this age group;
  • Hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate.
  • Knowledge and willingness to use inquiry-based approach to planning and teaching;
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to teach, assess and plan a Fine Arts program building on the goals and outcomes of the Ministry Instructional Resource packages; familiarity with the new Arts Education curriculum;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and proven ability, commitment and drive to work cooperatively and effectively with other educators in a collegial team setting;
  • Possess excellent communication skills with students, staff and parents;
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Special Needs students and support staff with a focus on Differentiated Instruction in the classroom and demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners through a broad array of teaching strategies and differentiated instruction;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the area of Technology and the ability to integrate technology into the curriculum;
  • Ability to use formative assessment practices to improve student achievement with emphasis on the Performance Standards
  • Effective classroom management style, including an understanding of the PBS (Positive Behaviour Support) philosophy that focuses on structure, mutual respect, natural consequences, consistency and positive reinforcement;
  • Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of needs;
  • Ability to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods;
