About the role

Northern Green Canada continues to grow and is looking for a Biosecurity Technician for our EU GMP-Certified Licensed Cannabis Production Facility in Brampton, ON.

The Biosecurity Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and compliance of the production environment. This individual will be responsible for performing cleaning and sanitation activities across the facility, including production areas, equipment, and controlled zones, in adherence to EU GMP standards and industry best practices. The Biosecurity Technician will work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and cultivation, to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and operational efficiency, minimizing the risk of contamination and ensuring product quality. The role also involves rigorous documentation of cleaning procedures, managing sanitation inventory, and supporting ongoing training and audits. A strong attention to detail, adherence to strict protocols, and a proactive approach to sanitation are key to this position.

This role pays $20/hour and some evenings and weekends are required.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**Cleaning and Sanitation Compliance:

  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of production equipment, facilities, and surfaces in accordance with EU-GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards and company protocols.
  • Follow detailed cleaning schedules to ensure cleanliness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all cleaning agents, sanitizers, and equipment are used according to safety and GMP guidelines.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping
  • Maintain accurate records of sanitation activities, including cleaning logs, chemical usage, and equipment maintenance.
  • Document and report any issues or deviations encountered during cleaning processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for audits, inspections, and internal assessments.
  • Equipment and Facility Maintenance
  • Ensure proper maintenance of sanitation tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and address minor issues with sanitation equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform deep cleaning of production areas and equipment during scheduled shutdowns.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration
  • Work closely with production, quality assurance, and safety teams to ensure that sanitation practices align with production schedules and safety standards.
  • Provide support during the setup and breakdown of production lines, ensuring all areas are thoroughly sanitized before and after each run.
  • Contamination Control
  • Monitor and manage cleanliness in critical areas to minimize the risk of cross-contamination.
  • Follow strict protocols for the cleaning of controlled zones, including isolators, cleanrooms, and extraction areas.
  • Identify and address any potential sanitation-related issues that could affect product quality or compliance.
  • Inventory Management
  • Assist in the management of cleaning supplies and chemicals, ensuring inventory levels are adequate.
  • Properly store and handle cleaning chemicals according to safety guidelines and GMP requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of chemical usage to support inventory and compliance tracking.

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper handling of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct regular checks for potential hazards in the work environment, reporting safety concerns to management immediately.
  • Ensure that sanitation practices do not interfere with safety standards or production operations.

Training and Development

  • Participate in ongoing training and education related to sanitation, GMP standards, and cannabis production protocols.
  • Support the development and improvement of sanitation SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and processes.
  • Assist in the training of new sanitation staff and team members on cleaning procedures and compliance standards.

  • Process experience in medicinal cannabis.
  • Industry experience in medicinal cannabis.
  • Experience in the production of medical cannabis.
  • Knowledge of GACP standards and cannabis cultivation processes.
  • Knowledge of GMP processes and guidelines.
  • Experience in supply chain management, quality assurance or regulatory compliance in the cannabis industry.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple partners and tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work collaboratively and build relationships with external partners.
  • Proficiency in compliance tracking software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Has allergen warnings - Potential exposure to dust, pollen, and plant pathogens.
  • Requires exposure to cleaning solvents, such as high volumes of isopropyl alcohol.
  • Requires use of provided PPE, such as masks, hair nets, beard covers, respirators, boot covers, scrubs, non-slip shoes, and Tyvek suits as necessary.
  • Has exposure to loud noises, including but not limited to air compressors, packaging equipment, and alarms.
  • Has exposure to CO2 manufacturing procedures at OSHA approved CO2 levels.
