Position Description

Facilities Operations Energy & Sustainability Coordinator

Are you exceptionally organized and have experience in energy & sustainability as well as operational experience in large Hospital settings working?

We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy & Sustainability coordinator to help drive and make SickKids a greener hospital. This position will help promote SickKids' green initiatives and achievements internally and externally. The coordinator is responsible for helping provide administrative and project support to the energy and sustainability team to ensure the department's goals and objectives are met. Here's what you'll get to do

  • Support implementation of SickKids newly released Sustainability strategy
  • Support/help coordinate energy and environmental sustainability projects and initiatives including implementation, monitoring and tracking to ensure continuous improvement
  • Facilitate and coordinate department-specific environmental sustainability programs to reduce each department's environmental impact taking in consideration waste streams, service needs, operational requirements/constraints, etc.
  • Support collaboration with internal stakeholders to promote and implement energy management solutions
  • Track and update energy and sustainability policies and procedures as required
  • Organize promotional materials, educational information, surveys, training modules, etc. to improve staff knowledge and promote energy/sustainability awareness
  • Track energy/sustainability KPI's
  • Motivate staff, patients and visitors to participate in KidsGoGreen activities and green committees
  • Facilitate environmental awareness pertaining to recycling initiatives and waste reduction efforts, efficient energy use, smart commuting and greenhouse gas emission reductions

Relationship Management

  • Regular interaction and communication with department representatives, stakeholders, consultants, Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Clinical Leads, Project Horizon staff or other team members.
  • Strong collaboration skills that foster and develop working relationships with and alongside all project team members.
  • Exemplary communication, facilitation, interpersonal and listening skills; experience successfully supporting and motivating diverse groups by learning and understanding their needs and objectives; experience establishing credibility and working relationships at all levels of the organization; solid sense of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Draws upon negotiation skills and conflict resolution strategies, to work with external and internal stakeholders, obtaining buy-in and support to ensure success
  • Communicates project results and makes recommendations to project stakeholders as required.

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree/diploma from an accredited university/college or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in supporting environmental sustainability and energy management programs in healthcare or other public institutions
  • Experience preferably in energy management, environmental sciences or related fields
  • Must have the ability to utilize computer systems to effectively manage projects; possess intermediate skills in the following, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, MS Outlook and Word
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be an asset
  • Good knowledge and experience of hospital operations and environments; familiarity with facilities operations, clinical as well as other support services departments
  • Knowledge, experience/understanding of environmental legislation and guidelines is beneficial
  • Knowledge of legislation, codes and policies regarding infection prevention and controls within a healthcare environment would be an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and successfully manage in a complex, fast-paced environment with multiple and shifting priorities

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and adaptable to new technologies and processes
  • Strong facilitation and presentation techniques
  • Customer service mindset and the ability to relate well and cooperate with others
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly motivated to take initiative and produce results

Employment Type

  • 6 month contract, M - F (Hybrid). 35.0 hours/week
