About the role

Scope of Position:

Under the supervision and direction of the Supervisor, Support Services and as a member of the multidisciplinary care team, to provide a clean, sanitary and safe environment ensuring Residents, staff, families and visitors are provided with quality housekeeping services. To maintain, wash, launder, alter and repair linen and personal clothing in a clean and neat condition, ensuring Residents are provided with quality laundry service and to conduct the admission / discharge and transfer process for Residents’ personal items.

Position Description:

  • Undertake housekeeping tasks in Resident rooms, hallways, bathrooms, tub rooms, dining areas, storage areas, lounges, offices, lunch rooms, kitchens and service areas throughout the home
  • Undertake cleaning and sanitizing of all areas of the home on a routine basis (including floor and project cleaning), including watering of plants and flowers
  • Conduct housekeeping supply inventory control procedures, stock carts when needed, stock home areas as required
  • Clean work areas, including floors, equipment and work carts on a daily basis to keep equipment in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Use detergents, chemicals, germicides, and other cleaning supplies in a safe manner; wear personal protective equipment as instructed and use safe work practices
  • Undertake laundry procedures (gather, sort, wash, dry, inspect, fold and distribute) for both Resident personal items and home linen
  • Conduct the admission / discharge / transfer process as related to Resident belongings (labelling, safety inspections, etc.)
  • Adhere to infection control policies, procedures, protocols, routine and additional practices as required
  • Orientate new staff and student placements as required
  • Participate as a team member in providing Resident centered care and service
  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Health and Safety standards, guidelines and legislation, including compliance with Public Health standards and Ministry of Long-Term Care regulations and other relevant legislation
  • Participate in in-service educational opportunities
  • Maintain an awareness (at all times) of emergency procedures; participate in drills and associated educational opportunities
  • Be aware of and comply with all Corporate and home policies and procedures
  • Confidentiality is of extreme importance and must always be maintained
  • Occasionally may be directed to assist co-workers in tasks not directly related to this position
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

**Knowledge and Experience:**
  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
  • Environmental Services for Frontline Staff Course or willing to complete prior to start date in the role
  • Experience in a long term care home housekeeping setting would be considered an asset

Skills and Abilities:

  • Resident and Customer focus
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to interact with elderly Residents
  • Ability to operate telephone system, industrial cleaning equipment and operate housekeeping machinery.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
  • Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
