Job Summary Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Transit Facilities Maintenance, this position is responsible for but not limited to a variety of maintenance trade functions necessary to providing preventative maintenance and operational activities of the Transit Division.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Alteration and repair services to the building and routes operated by Transit Division;
- Carpentry; painting; mechanical operations;
- Cleaning and renovations;
- Removal, re‑installation and re‑location of equipment;
- Minor mechanical repairs;
- Plumbing, and heating repairs;
- Operation of a maintenance vehicle, sweeper, and lift truck;
- Trouble‑shooting and identifying potential problems;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills And Qualifications
- Must possess a secondary school education, post secondary education would be considered an asset;
- 1-2 years of working experience in carpentry, plumbing and mechanical operations;
- Previous related experience in the public sector is preferred;
- Working knowledge of the use of related construction equipment (i.e. sweeper, lift truck, power saw etc.) is required;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in an effective manner;
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal, customer service and conflict resolution skills;
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
- A self starter who is cooperative and is able to work effectively in a team environment;
- Ability to carry out the full range of physical demands of the position such as lifting, pulling and carrying of heavy equipment and objects;
- Must have a valid Ontario Class G driver's license and a clean record. A drivers’ abstract will be required to verify a driving record in good standing;
- Availability and dependability to work shifts and overtime as required,
- Exposure to variety of weather conditions, noise, vibration, unpleasant smells etc.
- Exposure to dust, flying particles etc.
- Requires lifting, pulling and carrying of heavy equipment and objects.
This is a Local 1572 ATU bargaining unit position. Interested candidates should consider the work environment and the nature of the work being performed. The work itself is physically demanding, repetitive in nature with continuous monitoring of production levels and quality standards. Hourly Rate/Salary: 35.05
