About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Operational Risk Manager to join the Operational Resilience Risk Team within our Client Experience & Technology Department. This role is a crucial new addition and will be responsible for the implementation and realization of the Enterprise Operational Resilience Program.
As ATB's next Risk Manager, your primary responsibilities will encompass comprehensive risk assessment and oversight across critical operations, projects, change, and incident management. You will also be instrumental in developing business continuity plans, performing business impact analyses, and contributing to the enterprise GRC's risk and control library, guiding issue remediation and reporting key metrics are also crucial aspects of this role. A significant focus will be on driving program improvements through automation, innovation, and robust cross-functional collaboration.
Accountabilities

Perform risk events analysis and assessment in adherence to process expectations under Operational Resilience Program.

Document Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and participate in annual reviews

Conduct detailed risk assessments on projects, system implementations, process changes, product enhancements, and business expansion plans.
-
Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) meetings and Post Implementation Reviews to identify the root cause, control gaps and log properly.
-
Utilize established risk assessment methodologies and frameworks to evaluate and quantify risks and control effectiveness.
-
Develop risk mitigation strategies and provide clear, actionable recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.

Monitor and guide the remediation of identified control issues, ensuring timely resolution and appropriate documentation in GRC systems.

Advise internal stakeholders on control design, compliance obligations, and regulatory readiness.

Collaborate closely with internal audit and compliance teams to ensure alignment and adherence to risk management policies and procedures.

Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and regulatory requirements related to risk management, specifically OSFI/ASFI, Payments Canada, INTERAC, SWIFT, and other payment systems.

Develop and report on key performance indicators and risk metrics to inform program maturity and assist data driven decision-making.

Participate in cross-functional meetings and provide expert advice on risk and control-related matters.

Identify and recommend opportunities for process optimization, including automation and AI applications in risk and compliance functions.

Champion a culture of continuous improvement across Risk, Technology, and Business Units.
Skills, experience & requirements
We're looking for a candidate who brings a strong blend of experience, technical expertise, and soft skills to this critical role;
Experience & Expertise

Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in risk management, IT audit, regulatory compliance, or technology governance, preferably within a large organization or financial institution.

Strong understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and best practices, including proficiency in conducting both quantitative and qualitative risk assessments.
-
Knowledge of industry-standard risk management frameworks (e.g., COSO, COBIT, ISO 31000).
-
Familiarity with governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) tools such as Metricstream, Archer, ServiceNow, or equivalent.
-
Previous experience with business process analysis/mapping is an asset.
-
Proficiency in leveraging automation, data analytics, or AI to enhance governance or risk programs is a significant plus.
Skills & Attributes
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information, think critically, and assess risks from multiple perspectives to develop clear, actionable insights.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to effectively communicate complex risk concepts and present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, enabling effective work with cross-functional teams.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or a related discipline is required.
Certifications
One or more of the following designations preferred:
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
- Professional Risk Manager (PRM)
- Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA)
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)

About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Operational Risk Manager to join the Operational Resilience Risk Team within our Client Experience & Technology Department.
