Job Information
As the Relief Personal Support Worker, Long Term Care you will be a member of the resident care team who provides personalized care to residents who have common well-defined nursing diagnoses. You will act as the resident's advocate in consultation with Licensed Practical Nurses and Regional Supervisor, Long Term Care. You will maintain hygiene, facilitate physical activity and promote the independence and mental well-being of the residents in a respectful and compassionate manner.
You must have the knowledge and ability to provide basic home nursing and support in order to preserve life and promote healing. You must be able to assist residents with transfers and be knowledgeable on the use of transfer belts, mechanical lifts, and one or two-person assisted transfers. The ability to operate basic medical equipment to assess residents health status and condition using a thermometer, stethoscope and blood pressure machine are also required.
To be considered for this role, you must have the successful completion of a Personal Support Worker or equivalent Certification Program; or if no certification, must have at least 1 year of work experience with a minimum of 1000 hours providing care in a long term care or home and community care setting and be able to complete the PSW course within 5 years of hire.
