About this opportunity: Cenovus is currently looking for an Instrument Maintenance Technician to join their Maintenance and Reliability department in their Foster Creek, AB location. The Instrument Maintenance Technician will report to the Instrument and Electrical Steam Water Utility Coordinator. Instrument Maintenance Technicians will also be accountable for adhering to safe work practices that comply to EH&S guidelines and Cenovus internal practices and expectations, work with the Operations staff to provide troubleshooting expertise when required, implementing preventative and corrective work.
While this vacancy is currently at Foster Creek this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the three Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need). Work Environment: Foster Creek & Christina Lake
- This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 12 hrs/day; 7 days on 7 days off; 42 hrs/week; Wednesday start; 2 week cycle at Foster Creek
- This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 12 hrs/day and 6 hrs on the first and last day; 8 days on 6 days off; 42 hrs/week; Wednesday start; 2 week cycle at Christina Lake
- Foster Creek and Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities
- Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations
- Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton
- Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB
Sunrise
- This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 12 hrs/day and 6 hrs on the first and last day; 8 days on 6 days off; 42 hrs/week; Wednesday start; 2 week cycle
- Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/ fly out remote camp-based position.
- Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton
- At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities
What you’ll do:
- Ensure effective commissioning of trade equipment (control valves, transmitters, control systems) following repairs and replacements
- Interpret drawings and use appropriate codes and follow installation standards and practices
- Examine process flow drawings, equipment lists and specifications for reference purposes and for determining work procedures
- Provide support and technical advice to facilities engineering and project personnel in addition to scheduling for preventative / corrective maintenance requirements and manage third-party contractors as required
- Contribute to and consistently improve maintenance critical metrics and support all work order process from creation to closure as per Cenovus standards
- Provide recommendations to team leads and warehouse personnel regarding equipment and spare parts inventory requirements
Who you are: Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as Journeyman Instrumentation Technician
- Dual ticket certification for Electrical would be considered an asset
- Proficiency in CMMS software (i.e., SAP)
- Experience with Amine & Claus processes considered an asset
- Analyzer experience, specifically H2S process analyzers considered an asset

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
