Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing daily and monthly general accounting tasks, supporting payroll processing, and administering employee benefits as needed. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with payroll regulations, efficient benefits administration, and smooth financial operations for the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting.
- Maintain month end working papers.
- Prepare and post journal entries in accounting system.
- Complete bank reconciliations for bank and credit card accounts.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
- Oversee fixed assets, including tracking acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
- Maintain capital asset loan schedules and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Oversee fixed assets utilization reporting to ensure optimal use of company resources.
- Calculate and file HST remittances, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting policies and internal controls
- Develop and assist in implementing special projects and process improvements.
- Assist with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes as needed.
- Assist with preparing payroll reports and reconciliation for bi-weekly payroll & quarterly bonus.
- Oversee employee benefits programs, including health insurance, LTD plans, and other company-sponsored benefits while ensuring compliance with all benefit-related regulations.
- Act as a liaison between the company and benefit providers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- High level of accuracy in processing financial transactions.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot accounting issues efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive payroll and employee information with discretion.
- Understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and benefits administration.
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, QuickBooks), accounting systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting roles.
- Accounting experience in the construction industry an asset.
- Knowledge of HR policies and employment laws is beneficial.
