Sessional Nursing Instructors: Faculty of Nursing BScN, Iiyikinaami Indigenous Nursing Program - Term 3 (Fall 2025) & Term 4 (Winter 2026)
The University of Calgary, Faculty of Nursing is seeking Sessional Nursing Instructors to teach an undergraduate BScN level clinical course within Siksika First Nation, for the Fall Semester 2025 and Winter Semester 2026 as follows:
FALL SEMESTER (September 2 - December 5, 2025)
- Term 3 - NRSG 351 (Health Promotion) September 3 - October 10, 2025
Schedule:
o Off-campus Thursday & Friday, On-site Lab Tuesday 1000-1300
- Term 3 - NRSG 350 (Care of the Aging Adult) October 22 - December 5, 2025
Schedule:
o Off-campus Thursday & Friday, On-site Lab Wednesday 0900-1200
WINTER SEMESTER (January 12 - April 13, 2026)
- Term 4 - NRSG 352 (Acute Care Nursing I)
Schedule:
o Off-campus Thursday & Friday, On-site Lab Monday 1300-1600
We are seeking applicants with nursing practice experience working with Indigenous peoples in community health, long-term care and/or home care community environments, particularly those with previous nursing education practice experience with Indigenous nursing students. Practice education takes place both on and off campus. Applicants who are interested in teaching the lab or clinical alone are invited to apply. Please indicate in the cover letter if you are available for the lab, clinical, or both. (Please note: mileage for instructor travel may be covered)
Successful applicants are required to be available during that entire period(s).
Sessional Instructors are provided with exceptional orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. The amount of remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B. Please see the Faculty Association’s website at http://www.ucalgary.ca/hr/tucfa-ca for further information regarding conditions of employment and remuneration.
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Facilitate onsite and remote low to mid-fidelity simulation activities within the Clinical Learning Centre
- Work effectively with small groups of students on-campus or in off-campus settings in acute care, chronic care, long-term care or community
- Participate in team meetings related to the practice course and faculty governance
- Participate in student assessment and evaluations on and off campus
- Seek excellence in teaching by applying various teaching strategies and working with colleagues
- Encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence informed practice
Qualifications:
Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Candidates with BN/BScN preparation will be considered.
Applied Experience:
- Rural and Indigenous health practice experience related to semester focus
- Experience engaging respectfully with Indigenous Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers
- Broad experience across a variety of areas
- Experience in clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of students
Enhanced Abilities:
- Application of adult teaching/learning principles
- Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation
- Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals
- Teamwork and leadership skills
- Evaluation and promotions of student problem solving and critical thinking
- Ability to critique student performance and provide meaningful feedback
- Prioritizing and meeting competing demands/requirements of varied settings
- Computer skills in word processing, email and internet access
