The Opportunity

The Global Access Department at Keyano College is seeking to hire a CALP, Skills for Success Instructor (Contract). Classes will be offered in-person, Monday-Thursday throughout the 2025–2026 academic year. Monthly team meetings take place on Fridays.

Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities

The CALP for Skills For Success Instructor is a contract faculty position and falls under the Keyano College Contract Faculty Letter of Agreement. CALP instructors report to the Associate Dean, Academic Upgrading & Global Access.

As a part-time CALP Skills for Success Instructor, you will lead learning opportunities for adult learners from diverse backgrounds, professions, and English language levels. The Community Adult Learning Program supports the development of foundational Skills for Success for Albertans using the framework established by Employment and Social Development Canada. This framework, outlined in the Skills for Success research report, identifies nine essential skills for thriving in employment, work, and life:

  1. Communication
  2. Creativity and innovation
  3. Problem-solving
  4. Collaboration
  5. Reading
  6. Writing
  7. Digital literacy
  8. Numeracy
  9. Adaptability

Participants may be seeking to enter the workforce, improve their foundational skills, or prepare for entrance exams such as the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CEAC) or Trades entrance exams. CALP classes are informed by student goals.

Please specify your areas of expertise in your cover letter. As a Skills for Success Instructor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and deliver engaging course content on essential skills.
  • Customize course materials to meet the diverse needs of adult learners from various backgrounds.
  • Utilize various instructional methods to accommodate different learning styles, including lectures, group activities, and hands-on exercises.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and growth.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to help them achieve their learning goals.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in essential skills training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a related field. Relevant certifications or equivalent experience may be considered.

  • Proven experience teaching or training adults, preferably in essential skills or related subjects.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse student population.

  • Flexibility to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours as needed.

  • A passion for helping others develop and succeed.

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Background in career coaching, or workforce development.
  • English as an Additional Language Teaching experience
  • Working knowledge of CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) and Task-Based Learning

Compensation and Benefits

Contract Instructor rate $46.00 per hour.
