Research Assistant, Using fNIRS to Study Numeracy Skills in Adults and Children

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
Position Overview:
The Research Assistant will work with Dr. Stephanie Bugden and her collaborators to support a research program investigating the development of basic numeracy skills. Responsibilities will include recruiting participants and assisting with data collection.
Duties:
- Working closely with students to perform the following tasks: data collection, data entry, analyses, and interpretation of the results.
- Prepare literature reviews, results, and materials for publication.
- Assist with preparing the materials for data collection such as developing stimuli and programming tasks
- Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities.
- Help prepare research posters, slides for talks, and other materials to disseminate research findings.
Qualifications:
- Completion of Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in Psychology or be a senior student enrolled in the PSYC 4040 Honour’s thesis class from the University of Winnipeg.
- Completion of PSYC-4100 Research Design and Data Analysis (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of B.
- Completion of PSYCH-4910 Special Topics in Cognitive Psychology and PSYCH-3920 Cognitive Neuroscience is preferred.
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
- Experience working with children.
- Excellent organization and teamwork skills.
- Experience using the Microsoft suite of programs.
- Experience using SPSS and/or R statistical program.
Experience using online data collection platforms (e.g., Qualtrics).
Condition(s) of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The period of work will be from September 2, 2025 - December 31, 2025 (with the possibility of extension) and the estimated total hours of work will be 10-350 hours.
