This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the Administrative Professional (Employee Group).

A Day in the Life…
Reporting to the Director, Housing Services and working in close collaboration with the management team of Housing Services, the Manager, Residence Life provides leadership and direction to the Residence Life program, which is responsible to create a positive community experience for approximately 2,800 students living in Brock’s residence system.

As the Manager, Residence Life, you will:

  • Establish and execute short and long-term strategic plans for the Residence Life Program, consistent with those in the Department, and University;
  • Initiate, implement, develop and oversee the Residence Curriculum in order to achieve educational priorities;
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of student behaviour management and residence disciplinary and/or mental health and well-being concerns;
  • Respond and/or intervene in emergency or crisis situations, providing information and consultation to the appropriate person/body in the event of a significant Residence Life issue or concern;
  • Manage safety and emergency procedures, ensuring adherence to risk management policies and procedures;
  • Hire, train and provide ongoing supervision and performance management for all full-time professional residence life staff within the unit (5 Residence Life Coordinators, 2 Transition & Support Coordinators);
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, development and evaluation of all part-time and student leaders;
  • Improve the residence community through research, policy development and programming to meet the needs of Brock residence students and the community;
  • Ensure accurate, fair and appropriate administration of the policies and procedures associated with Residence Agreement, Residence Community Standards, and/or student conduct to avoid potential liability;
  • Collaborate with other departments on campus-wide educational/awareness initiatives, providing residence specific insights and expertise;
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Residence Life budget.

This position responds to escalated residence issues and/or concerns brought forward by the on-call team. Irregular hours may be required throughout the year.

What you need to Succeed…

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field;
  • A minimum of five years working in a post-secondary student residence environment;
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory/management experience;
  • Extensive knowledge of residence life operations in a post-secondary student environment;
  • Maintains knowledge of current best practices, trends and issues related to student development and transition to university, risk management, student-at-risk /student-of-concern and case/administrative law related to student conduct and student events;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of FIPPA, AODA, Health and Safety and Human Rights legislation;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, database management systems, on-line database programs and website maintenance;
  • Exceptional conflict management skills, ability to diffuse and de-escalate highly emotional and/or sensitive situations such as mental health issues, suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, sexual assault;
  • Functional knowledge of student development theory, administrative law and natural justice;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and engage with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Adept at analyzing unique situations and developing creative solutions.

Preferred or Asset Skills…

  • Experience with residence student information management and tracking software;
  • Master’s degree in education, Social Work, Psychology, Leadership or a related field.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade N, Salary Scale ($80,569- $130,654)
  • Target Hiring Range: $80,569 - $90,000*
  • This is a permanent position that includes:

*The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
