Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled SAP HCM Specialist for a 6-month contract opportunity, with strong potential for extension. This role supports the ongoing optimization of SAP HCM and HCM Security environments and plays a key part in payroll configuration, system support, and strategic reporting within a unionized and compliance-heavy HR environment.
Contract Details
Contract Type: 6-Month Contract (Likely to Extend)
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 2 Days Onsite per Week)
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and test SAP HCM programs, user exits, and queries
- Configure and support Payroll, PA/OM, and Time Management modules within SAP HCM
- Analyze, balance, and reconcile data for payroll reports, audits, and internal departments
- Support the SAP Concur Employee Expense system integration
- Implement bi-annual SAP Support Packages, including legislative SAP notes
- Manage HCM Security: user access validation, role design (PFCG), HRUSER configuration, and audit preparation
- Maintain and enhance SAP roles, authorizations, and security assignments
- Collaborate with HR/Payroll stakeholders to define and meet security and reporting needs
- Oversee clone/test tools for HCM tables across SAP environments
- Identify improvement opportunities and promote system innovation
- Provide client-facing support and troubleshoot SAP HCM issues
- Document configurations, enhancements, and procedures
Must-Have Skills
- SAP HCM certification (preferably in Payroll module)
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on SAP HCM experience with strong Payroll focus
- Proficient in ABAP development: RICEF, ALV reports, user exits, smart forms
- Proven SAP HCM configuration experience (infotypes, schema, rules, PA/OM/Time)
- Experience with SAP ECC 6.0 EHP8 and knowledge of concurrent employment environments
- Demonstrated experience managing user security: role creation, HRUSER, PFCG
- History of leading mid-year and year-end payroll updates and system upgrades
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities within Payroll
- Comfortable with support pack testing, version control, and cross-environment validation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to support HR stakeholders
- Strong time management to meet tight deadlines and reporting cycles
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to mentor others and work independently
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience in public sector or unionized environments
- Exposure to SAP Concur, SuccessFactors, or ESS/MSS
- Familiarity with audit preparation and compliance-driven reporting
- Knowledge of advanced reporting tools (e.g., BI, SAP Analytics)
