About the Role: Vocational Coach
Are you passionate about helping others find meaningful work? Do you enjoy coaching, mentoring, and creating impact? As a Vocational Coach at Obair, you will support individuals in achieving their employment and educational goals through personalized coaching, skills development, and career planning.
This is a 1-year full-time position to provide coverage during a maternity leave. Reporting to the Program Manager, this role offers an exciting opportunity to be a change-maker in your community—helping people overcome barriers and unlock their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Engagement & Coaching
- Conduct intake and eligibility assessments for program participants.
- Provide individualized career coaching, including goal-setting and employment preparation.
- Develop tailored Action Plans with participants based on their strengths, barriers, and goals.
- Facilitate job search support: resume development, interview prep, and job readiness training.
- Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
2. Training & Skill Development
- Deliver and facilitate life skills and skills for success training aligned with the program curriculum.
- Organize and lead group workshops and one-on-one instruction tailored to learning needs.
- Adapt materials and methods to reflect the needs of diverse participants.
- Assess outcomes and continuously improve instructional approaches.
3. Program Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate digital and physical case files, including online case management entries.
- Ensure documentation and reporting align with program and funding requirements.
- Coordinate participant supports, financial assistance, and work placements.
- Communicate regularly with the Program Manager regarding participant status and program updates.
4. Ongoing Professional Development
- Stay current with best practices in vocational coaching and career development.
- Pursue approved training opportunities that enhance service delivery and innovation.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of recent experience in social services, employment services, or a related field.
- Post-secondary diploma in a human/social services field or Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Proven experience delivering and facilitating skills-based training programs and curriculum.
- Experience working with individuals facing complex barriers and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Familiarity with the BC Societies Act and managing requirements tied to government-funded programs is an asset.
- Certifications in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and First Aid (or willingness to obtain).

- Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities with ease.
- Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-oriented.
- A strong collaborator who thrives in team environments but can also work independently.
- Calm and professional under pressure, with strong emotional intelligence.
Additional Information
- Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
- Travel across the Northeast Region of BC may be required.
- This is a 1-year maternity leave coverage position, dependent on continued program funding.
