The Opportunity:

The purpose of this position is to review, analyze, evaluate and negotiate complex and catastrophic claims related to o Property, Commercial, Liability and Auto loss claims. The incumbent is responsible for investigating losses where necessary, as well as assigning the appropriate independent adjuster and relevant experts to assist in the effective management and resolution of the claim.

  • Significant breadth of industry contacts including, but not limited to, other Ontario farm mutuals and Professional associations to support competitive intelligence

How you will create an impact:

The expectation for this role is that the incumbent has attained the relevant technical knowledge that is deemed expert in their respective area of claims management. In addition, but not limited to, job knowledge will include the following:

  • Expert knowledge of all relevant regulations, including the Insurance Act, pertaining to the claims assigned
  • Expert competency in reading and interpreting all policy wordings relevant to claims assigned
  • Expert competency in comprehension of reserve calculations and exposure
  • A full understanding on reinsurance agreements available and the necessary process for reporting
  • Expert competency and knowledge with mediation and claims resolution processes. Act as resident expert and actively participate where appropriate
  • Expert demonstration of interpretation and understanding of professional reports including summary opinion and prognosis as relevant to claim
  • Expert knowledge of pricing norms and variables as relates claim specific expense and resolution costs
  • Looked upon as a resource to the Underwriting Department on claims coverage interpretation and applicant thereof, as well as claims development explanations
  • Accountable for claims at all transaction levels including, coverage interpretation, evaluation, reserve adjustments, payments, written and verbal communication, expert requirements and internal reporting requirements

What you will bring:

  • Completion of Post-Secondary Education and a minimum of five years of insurance, preferably in claims is required
  • Ability to provide technical training and mentorship to Claims Support and Level 1&2 claims staff and broker partners regarding all levels of claims
  • Working towards, or completion of CIP, and an active pursuer of the necessary education to respond to a changing marketplace
  • Proven superior organizational skills and ability to multi task is required
  • Thorough attention to detail is a must to ensure accuracy of claims documents
  • Excellent mathematical skills are required with the ability to perform, and interpret, complex calculations when determining benefits or assessing estimates and invoices presented
  • Effective communication skills: verbal, non-verbal and written
  • Sound morals, ethics and confidentiality with ability to develop trusting and effective working relationships with peers and employees
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality and empathy are required when dealing with insured’s and claimants
  • Superior problem solving and negotiation are required
  • Strong computer literacy, proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs and internet navigation
