INSPECTOR, REGIONAL CONSTRUCTION (LEDUC)

Progressive Wage Rate: $41.49 – $43.90 per hour
In this unionized position, the successful candidate is responsible for preparing construction activities in the field; performing inspection activities to ensure high quality and efficient work is performed in compliance with all applicable internal policies, contract documents, procedures, Standard Practices and external regulations; ensuring compliance with the Company’s safety standards, policies and procedures at the work site and during any work performed; acting as the “person in charge of the work” as it relates to the Company’s Environmental Management Practices; and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Greater than three years of directly related utility experience which includes:
- Two years in an inspector role, a position providing oversight to construction activities or a project coordinator role; and
- One year interpreting contracts and auditing work to contract terms.
- Valid Province of Alberta Class 5 driver’s license;
- Trained in Line Locating, SCBA, and Combustible Gas Indicator;
- Intermediate level of knowledge and understanding of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Codes;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook and SharePoint;
- Knowledge of Work Management Systems, GIS/ESRI and GPS; and
- Ability to perform all necessary physical requirements of the position.
This position requires the successful candidate to work independently and to provide support by travelling approximately 70% within the Central/NW region and 30% within the NE region.
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Staking new construction, major projects, or normal course projects being done by the Company or contractor forces;
- Aligning construction activities in accordance with issued work packages to ensure compatibility and compliance, and reporting any anomalies, inconsistencies, or potential cost overruns;
- Ensuring issued work packages are complete and all construction permits, approvals, land work, and survey plans have been obtained;
- Ensuring construction materials are available to the contractor through coordination with the procurement group;
- Inspecting and evaluating the quality, performance, and construction methods of contract construction crews; and
- Suspending work due to poor quality of work and/or deviation from Company policy or standards.
