Overview

Are you a resourceful, self-motivated individual who can complete full-cycle payroll processing? Do you have a year or more of experience working with a large, complex payroll system? Our Payroll Services department has an opportunity for a Payroll Assistant to process payroll transactions for our 4300 employees. If you have a strong customer service focus, are detail-oriented, and have payroll experience in a mid-size organization, we’d like to hear from you.

How you’ll make a difference: You’ll help protect the financial integrity of B.C.’s workers’ compensation system, ensuring we serve British Columbians now and in the future.

Where you’ll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate, verify, and ensure the accuracy of information received for the completion of salary and benefit transactions on tasks such as new hires, terminations, leaves, promotions, salary increases, and more
  • Ensure that all transactions meet with current Collective Agreement and payroll legislation
  • Liaise with and provide information to employees throughout the organization and external groups such a benefit carrier, insurance companies, EI, external auditors, and Canada Revenue Agency
  • Balance and reconcile the monthly superannuation report for eligible employees, complete statistics, beneficiary, and refund forms and forward to BC Pension Corporation
  • Extract data from the payroll system into spreadsheets and format to user specifications to provide information to various departments in the organization
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Plan and prioritize a detailed, high-volume workload while ensuring accuracy and meeting deadlines
  • Actively listen to obtain relevant facts and clearly explain information to individuals with varying levels of understanding
  • Communicate confidently to internal and external clients in a courteous, positive manner
  • Analyze information and investigate problems in order to achieve an appropriate and timely solution
  • Provide quality customer service exhibiting diplomacy, professionalism, particularly in resolving a problem or complaint

Your background and experience

  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification
  • A minimum of one year of experience in full-cycle payroll processing, working with a large, complex payroll system
  • Grade 12 supplemented by courses from the National Payroll Institute or other relevant post-secondary courses may be considered
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and familiarity with PeopleSoft are considered assets

We’ll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Our Benefits

Once you’ve worked for 1820 hours (approximately 12 months), you’ll switch to getting:

  • 3 weeks of vacation with regular increases based on years of service
