Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a Team Lead, Enterprise Application Development for a full-time continuing opportunity the Information Technology Services department.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Applications, the Team Lead, Enterprise Application Development is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the design, development, integration and support of enterprise applications that support core institutional operations. You will oversee a team of application developers and offer guidance and ensure adherence to best practices in application architecture, integration, and modernization while supporting improvements in business processes. You will also be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of application development projects and the delivery and maintenance of reliable, secure, scalable, efficient, and high-performing application systems and solutions. The role also collaborates with internal IT teams, business units, and external vendors to drive quality outcomes and optimize enterprise application services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as the escalation point for enterprise application-related issues, providing technical guidance and removing barriers to success;
- Supervising, overseeing, mentoring, and supporting the Enterprise Applications team, including assignment, prioritization, and monitoring of workload and performance, professional development, onboarding, preparing schedules, and finding coverage for absences;
- Providing input on enterprise system roadmaps, architecture planning, and resource allocation;
- Leading the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes, ensuring best practices in version control, testing, deployment, and documentation;
- Acting as a senior technical resource for escalated application support issues, performing root cause analysis and recommending long-term solutions;
- Leading the planning and execution of application upgrades, patches, and releases;
- Ensuring projects align with IT governance frameworks, security standards, and institutional priorities; and
- Working closely with Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, and Data & Analytics teams to optimize system integration and security.

SKILLS
You will have:
- Strong technical proficiency with enterprise application systems and business applications;
- The ability to evaluate complex systems and formulate recommendations for implementation and integration;
- Knowledge of change management principles and DevOps practices, with experience leading change initiatives related to enterprise applications;
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff while fostering a positive, productive, and cohesive team environment;
- Demonstrated initiative, led by example, and served as a positive role model;
- Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service and improving user satisfaction;
- Demonstrated a service-oriented and client-centered approach in delivering IT solutions;
- Excellent analytical, planning, organizational, time management, and decision-making skills with keen attention to detail;
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical end-users;
- The ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented collaborative environment;
- The ability to prioritize resources effectively and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines; and
- The ability to learn quickly when facing new challenges; demonstrating innovation, creativity and adaptability in problem-solving.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience within IT, including a minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.
- Experience with CI/CD methodologies and leading a team of developers.
- The following are considered assets:
- Certifications in AWS/Azure Networking, or Security+
- Leadership experience in a unionized environment,
- experience in the public sector or post-secondary environment
- experience in large-scale ERP and Business System transformations, replacements or migrations (1000+ users)
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- This position is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. However, the nature of the position requires the Team Lead to participate in support, coverage and escalations for the ITS On-call schedule as well as work some weekends and evenings to support the operations.
